Hi....I'm relatively new to the site.....
I've owned my 08 3500 6.7L cummins since Feb this year..has just over 10000km..haven't had any real problems yet.....other than on the overhead displays it tells me to change the oil.....for 3 times in the past couple of months.....i've also changed my oil 2 times since i bought the truck....and last oil change was a month ago....so i've reset the "oil change required" by pressing the accelerator 3 times before starting the truck...and that gets rid of it......but today.....my check engine light went on....I brought my truck to my buddy's shop....where he hooked up this computer thing and it says "Code P2000 NOx absorber stored efficiency below threshold (bank 1)".....my buddy helped me cleared the check engine light....but what's my problem? is it serious..... and this P2000 code am i suppose to see it on my overhead display???? or how else do ppl know what codes they're getting? does everybody have these diagnostic computers???

what are you guys' inputs??? please and thank you....your help is really appreciated.....thanks

First off Welcome to cumminsforum.

There is a video on the 6.7 powertrian forum on how to pull up the codes on your gauge cluster. Where your mileage reading is at.

As far as the code ive never had that one or if i did i dont remember to well but it might be something having to do with the recall that we had on these trucks i think back in october, november. I believe it was the g30 recall. But hopefully someone else with a little bit better memory can chime in on this subject.

You wont see any off the codes on your overhead display, you will just get the ding sound everytime it comes on.

Show me how to find this video. I don't think it is for real nor can it be done that way ... Thank You.

make sure the G30 recall has been performed, if it has there is also a TSB 18-013-08 which involves flashing the computer current for the P2000 codes and several others.

My truck has triggered the Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) 22 times since August 2007. I bought the truck on July 4th with 4 miles showing on the odometer. Then with less than 2500 miles the first check engine light came on. I've had the P2000 at least 5 times so far. From what I was told by the service manager the P2000 has everything to do with soot build up on the O2 sensors. Yes, I've had the G30 recall and O2 sensors replaced twice with several cleanings tossed in for good measure.
Let's hope that this is the only check engine light you'll ever see.

I'm getting mine back today from the dealer after popping the p2000 code twice. They reflashed it and cleaned my O2 sensors...told me that would also fix the soot in my tailpipe....we'll see.

Good luck with that. They have flashed mine and cleaned the sensors twice. Now i have to go in and have a hole drilled in my turbo so a solvent can be added to clean out the system. They tell me they will need my truck for two days. And I have been waiting for the parts to come in for over a week now.
