I have an 06 common rail, looking to possibly convert to P pump. I know you have to swap front covers and have seen some builders that offer them but Im needing to know what else has to be done? Injectors, lines, gear train and whatever else I might run in to. Any positive feedback would be appreciated!

Well I'm needing injectors soon and if I'm going to be spending that kind of money anyway why not spend it on a more reliable fuel system? Injectors are what I'm talking about when I say that the common rail system isnt as reliable. And I do realize that there may have to be some major changes but there are people that have done it and I would like to know what exactly has to be done?

The people that are doing these conversions are doin it with old 24v engines not common rail. I see no advantage in doing this with a cr engine, your better off finding a 24v and doin it to that. You would need to change front cover, swap cam gears I think, maybe even cam, find a p-pump, wiring, linkage, injectors and lines. Wiring would be a nightmare, you dodge is meant for a cr, so by removing all the sensors and ECM will trip lots of codes and you engine will always be on and if you have an auto, it will require more wiring. For the price, it will be cheaper to put some injectors in the cr and downtime won't be as long, just a few hours to change injector. But then again, its your truck too.

You'll need a 12v or 24v head. And let it trip codes, it's not like it can put the engine into a limp mode lol.

Ok well if I got it all done what would I have to do to make my tranny shif correctly? I know this has been done bc there are people that make a front cover for a common rail engine and the biggest problem with p pumping a common rail with a common rail head is that the intake is in the way but schied diesel now has a front cover that will work.

CR Injectors unreliable??? Its all in how you take care of it. Replace the injectors with NEW bosch ones and run a lift pump with 2micron filtering, NO added pressure, and use a good additive. The injectors should last +-200k. P-pump has its place but if you know how to set-up a cr, they can do everything plus.
