Im having some trouble with my trans, its a pretty fresh build with a georend converter and has been doin really well. Untill here recently it has started to shudder at low speeds in overdrive only, if you get it up around 80 it will stop. The shudder almost feels like a miss.
My question is what could be worn in the overdrive unit to cause this, i have a basic knowledge of how it all works but dont know where to start to fix this.....

did you replace the converter when you had the trans rebuilt? sounds like that may be the culprit... but i'm no expert...

Yeah it was a new georend converter, of course just cuz its new dont mean it aint broke. lol Im sure its not the converter locking and unlocking it will only do it cruising in 4th/overdrive..... im lost and its very frustrating

that shudder is because in lock up at light throttle, the tranny pressure is still close to idle, and when you hit the throttle a bit the converter shudders...solution could be a BD pressure-loc, it is a pneumatic actuator that raises the tranny pressures at light throttle to what it would be at around 80% throttle. around $300 and you can do it in your driveway. at least it definitely worked for me.

Go to a trans parts dealer (or heck, i think O'reilys sells it) and get a 7 dollar tube of shudder fix and put in the trans. It worked for me for a long time until i had to replace the trans and then i got a new PTC converter,( Muscle Shoals Al.)

With your mods, I suspect (know) that part throttle power is overloading the capacity of torque converter clutch. This could be agrevated by cheap Dexx fluid and or disapated additive package. Unfortunatelly the converter clutch is probablly damaged and even the best ATF+4 cannot cure it. Gonna have to take advantage of warranty offered by Mr transmission himself.

Its not in my sig but im already running a pressure loc, ive also tried a tube of shudder fix, and no luck. I dont think its the converter because it will only do it in O/D when cruising at a steady speed, if i ease on the throttle even a little it will stop. I call it a shudder but it feels more like a hard miss or like driving down a really bumpy road. Thanks for all the help. Any more ideas......

What speeds does this "shudder" happen at?

It seems different from the problem I was having with the converter locking and unlocking, although it was happening very quickly. It would just unlock and lock very quickly, but it only did it between 40-55MPH under light throttle. If I increased throttle some it would stop. I don't know if it will help but the bd APPS noise Filter fixed mine and it's only $10.00 so it might be worth trying any way.

Here's the link BD Power - Product: APPS Noise Isolator

If it doesn't your only out 10 bucks.:confused013:

Our converters don't lock up until you hit O.D. unless you have a lock up box or switch then it can be done in all forward gears.

I would. He is a very helpful guy. If you bought his product, even indirectly I'm sure he would help you. He is very busy so you may have to leave your number and wait for a call back but it will be worth it. He knows these tranys inside and out.

What did you end up finding out?? My converter does the EXACT same thing yours was doing.

I would almost think about installing a lockup switch just to test the function of the converter at say third gear and see if it shudders. I am not completely sold that its your converter. Another thing would be to get a gauge and put it in your OD test port and just watch the pressure to make sure it's maintaining good pressure. Be a 15 minute test
