Well, this one's on me. While rushing, I over-tightened the star wheel adjuster on the rt. rear of our 96 2500. Of course I didn't find out about this until the GF called from several miles down the road with smoke coming from the one drum. I told her to hold tight and I'd back the adjuster off...wrong. :banghead: This thing is locked up tighter than a drum (both the adjuster and the brake), so the truck came home via wrecker. I figured with a bit of time it would cool down and I could get it loose...still wrong. I've worked on drum brakes for more than 30 years and never seen one locked up this tight. Any suggestions? Hopefully the cool evening will give her a change of heart, but we'll see. Help please...

The fresh, "cooked brake" smell combined with a drum that was hotter than the sun gave it away. This isn't helping my dislike of drum brakes...

Got it! A large screwdriver, instead of the smaller adjusting tool, finally gave me the leverage to get the star-wheel moving. Did I mention I don't like drum brakes?? Happy trails.

Actually a slender screwdriver...the threads on the adjuster were just covered in mud. Good that you point that out, though.
