HI,

I had a idea about my over load springs IF I could lower the rubber pads so they come to help sooner?

Is there any kits to do this?
Any one make something?

I do plan to get air bags some time.

Right now the truck sits almost level just a little lower then the front.
From what I see unloaded there is 2 to 3" from the over load springs. And if the lower the rubber blocks 1 to 2" they would help sooner. I'm not too worried about the ride my 5th had a air ride tung.So it rides good and takes up lots of the bumps.

Any ideas?

If you are talking about lowering the rubber snubbers on the axle i would'nt move those. Wont that eliminate any travel in the springs. I would be worried about snapping a spring. I would go with the air bags ASAP. I will say I have seen alot of the kits and some have the compressors to inflate the bags are mounted on the firewall. It is very noisey on the firewall even with the isolator mounting brakets.

NO I was talking about the Overload springs the rubber pads the over load springs push up on when your loaded.

I just wanting to have them touch the over loads sooner so they kick in helping with the load sooner.
It was just a idea The truck is not to far off from being level now. It was hust somthing I could make in a few min to try it out.

Honestly, with a trailer that big it looks like you don't have enough pin weight. I'd find a way to add more pin weight and toss in some air-bags. A 40k+ truck pull'n a 50k+ camper... 300 bucks for a pair of bags is nothing.

When I hook my gooseneck up empty, my overloads touch the rubber (my trailer is long, and has a lot of tounge weight). IMO, even if the overloads come in to play on your truck sooner, the truck will still have a slight squat. I like your idea, but that is pretty much what airbags or timbrens do.

But then again this is what this site is here for, guy's to try things and then report back to the other members the results. I say if you have the means to do it, build yourself some longer stops and test and let us know how they work. Good luck to you....

The easiest way to fix this is also the cheapest. I took my rig into a local steering and suspension shop to fix my soft ride problems. I run about 5000 lbs of welding gear in my truck and the bad roads had destroyed my airbags. They fixed my problem by simply removing my spring packs and added a couple of 4" x 1/2" mild steel flat bars in each spring pack. It gave me about 3" of lift and I removed my destroyed bags. The ride is great and I installed a leveling kit in the front for a super cheap lift. It's only a couple of hour job and uses some simple hand tools. The suspension shop hosed me for $800 but after seeing what they did, I wont need to return with my next truck.

There is a product that bolts to the bracket where the rubber pads are, they are some weird shaped blocks that drop the contact point down about 3 inches or so. I saw them in the catalog from the RV center where we just purchased our new 5er. I'll get back with you when I find the info.

I added some 2" tubing to get the overloads engaged sooner.

No, It's not the Timbrens, it looks very similar to what Steven K has done, nice idea by the way.
