I have been very happy with my 2014 Ram 5500 chassis cab (16 ft box truck) but the miles are getting up there and I’m planning on ordering a new one. I currently have 275,000 miles on it and it has been the best work truck I’ve owned in 18 years of doing business. I would like to hear some opinions from guys that have owned both a 2019 and a 2014-2018 5500. Are there any negatives so far on the 2019s? I made the mistake of buying a Ford 6.0 when the dealer still had new 7.3s on the lot back in 2003 and don’t want to make the same mistake. Is the 19 a better truck and just as reliable as the prior years? My other opinion would be to find a leftover 2018.

Are you ordering from a commercial dealer or from a truck outfitter?

Have not read of any significant issues with the 2019.

Some have maybe 50K by now with little to no negative feedback. Did hear of one that had repeating issues with CEL's. Do not remember what they were or how that turned out. Lots out there running and running. Same can be said for mine.

I still haven’t placed the order. During my search for current inventory I can across a new 2019 Ford F550 XLT with everything I want for $52,000. I still prefer the Ram but have never owned a Ford 6.7. Do they have a higher payload? I saw one comparison that said Ford had Almost a 2,000 lb greater payload. Both trucks are 19,500 gvwr and I wouldn’t think the F550 would weigh that much less than the Ram 5500

Well you can’t order a 2019 anymore. It’ll have to be a 2020.
