I would go with the manual tranny even though the 68RE is a nice tranny. If your sold on the 6.7 then get the DPF/EGR Delete kit for sure or your mileage will be terrible. Also, I think the 4.10 gears are unnecessary. 3.73 will be just fine. 38K is steep right now. Look in the SE TX area and you can find a better deal. I don't know where your located but if you can find a cheaper deal then it may be worth it. Make sure you go into the buying process willing to back out. As long as you have the upper hand you'll be okay. Set a max price you will pay and don't budge.

After reading your posts, you may be better off going with a used 5.9. It will be trouble free and get the job done. Because you will be moving around a lot you might not be able to find a dependable dealer who can service a 6.7. If you were to get a bad one it could turn out to be a nightmare. Where as, the 5.9 is proven and easy to work on. If I were in your shoes I would look hard at a 06-07 Mega Cab dually. I can't bring myself to buy a 2WD truck but it may suit your needs better by saving on fuel. Also, go with the manual tranny and throw an exhaust brake on there. That would be a great set up in my opinion.

Ok I won't get 2wd. You guys are great I just was trying to get a good deal on the new truck since they have a ton of rebates etc on them right now. Well I did some searching and found this truck on craigslist so how about this one.

That is a great find. I would take a look at it ASAP. If it checks out, you should take advantage of it. That is a great looking rig setup just the way you need it. I say go for it.

I'm going to look at the mega cab dually on Fri when the guy comes over on the Island for the weekend. It sounds like a pretty nice truck it has a south bend clutch which I'm unsure on how much of a upgrade that makes to the truck. It also has the power nerf bars the ones that retract which are really nice. One question that comes to mind is how will this truck tow verses the new ones with the jake brake and the automatic tranny. I know all of ya'll were recommending this set up so lets here it. Another concern is that truck is not rated to tow what I'll be towing with it so what issues could I forsee with doing that? Can I fit any kind of tool box wih the hitch in the bed? Thanks guys ya'll are great.

Josh
The South Bend Clutch is a great upgrade. Apparently this guy knows what he's doing. Makes me think this truck is cared for. As for the jake brake, you can have one installed. I prefer a manual tranny when towing, I got an auto for my wife, so that's why I'd say go with it. I think it will last longer than the 68RE on the new rigs despite there durability so far. Those tow ratings are just a suggestion, it can tow. Well, how much weight will you be towing? If I were you, I'd jump on that one.

Josh, what part of LA are you moving to? In my opinion you will not find any better truck than the one you looked at. I disagree about that warranty stuff. Most dealers do a poor job that results in something else going wrong with your truck. I rarely take my truck in for anything. If I do I take it to a dealer, I will take it to one that I know has a mechanic who cares, not some kid off the street. Now that your coming to LA, I'll let you know which dealers you can go to for dependable service.

From what I've read most guys prefer South Bend or Valair. The injectors are most likely going to help you because they will give you more power. What part of LA are you moving to?

Alright :thumbsup I know we've got a lot of knowledgable guys here that love to turn wrenches. Also, DeRidder is a great place to get warranty work done, as well as, Kirbyville, TX. It might be out of the way but for great service you can't go wrong. It may be on your way when you go back out to Cali?
