Opinion on DD twin turbo?

So I got a few miles under my truck in the past few days and am working on reducing the incredible amount of pre boost smoke and found if I turn my OD off and raise my RPM's I can maintain a few PSI of boost resulting in a very clean slight haze thru out my normal driving range up to 55 mph as well as lower my EGT's by 300*. Unfortunately at 55 I am running 2300 rpm. This got me thinking about twin turbos, if I was to run a stock(?) Turbo to maintain a low rpm low boost cruse around 1750 rpm I may be in the money!! The other benefit is having the waste gate since I currently do not and get a lot of chatter at higher boost.

I feel like I invented the wheel here!! But probably just learned B of the Abc's....lol regardless I'm still excited!!

I have searched around about twins but am overwhelmed by the info, (HX-123 turbo with a 99mm 1.058 pitch turbine mated to a s999 blah blah blah...... ) I have no idea what any of this means!!! ( what a noob!!)

So lookin for a little guidance... Am I off? Or is my mind heading in the right direction? I still have a lot of fuel adjusting to do and will continue to tune regardless

Most important here's my goals: daily driver that I can afford to drive, with some towing (20' flats boat and single car goose neck from time to time). NO SMOKE!! The best MPG as I can and am willing to loss some power if I need to.

Thanks in advance.....chris.

Hi Chris, I just come across your post & Im wanting the same deal as far as fuel mpg, low smoke, & what not. I snapped my stock HX35 that spooled at 1100. Put an II 64 on it couldnt spool it till 2000 with just an Edge with Hot unlock. Mpg went down 3 mpg. Bought a track diverter spooling the 64 at 1500 this is with a six speed mpg went back up right around 2mpg. Found a towing twins kit from Diesel Power source its an HE351 over a 64 so Im thinking use my 64 & using an He351 with it. Might even put track diverter on the 351 & the 64. Just wondering if you figured out anything & give you my info & thoughts maybe we can help each other. Thanks

Hey bud, you might be in the wrong section/thread… Also my man, work on the sentence structure. It may make it a little more bearable to read.

To the OP, I'm interested as well to see what you get figured out. What mods have been done currently?
LOL. I get what you mean about sentence structure. Sorry about that was in a bad hurry at the time. I have a 2001 24 valve six speed, Edge juice with Hot Unlock, and an Air Dog. Future plains involve a 97 P-Pump truck I bought to covert mine over. I was looking at your thread as far as boost, spool, and wanting more mpg. I snapped my stock turbo's shaft. So figure I'd upgrade to an Industrial Injections 64mm turbo. It killed mpg!!! Bought a BD track diverter valve, it was a great help but still not happy! I figured we had the same problem as far as MPG, boost, and smoke. A buddy of mine just bought a Stoker over 64mm turbo kit from Diesel Power Source. It's amazing!!! You should check it out and sorry about this first read this one might not be much better Im a mechanic and the Boss wants it all short hand and to the point lol. Over the years it has made my grammar really bad so sorry again and thanks for your time :)

@ op. There are a few guys who know compounds well. Assuming your sig is up to date I would try a 60/68 with an s475 or something in that ballpark for compounds.

It would make your truck much nicer to drive and it should be cleaner.

I'm sure the compound guys will chime in soon enough.

Old reliable is Hx35 or 40/HT3B.

Hx35/s471 or 472

I am doing He351/S472. Garrett at Pure Diesel power has a great price on the 470s. They are a newer design than the HT3B and are basically the same price.

Bigger than that you'll be into 62 or 64 over S480.

i recently put the 35/3b combo in my truck and so far im pretty happy with it. Spool up is very much like stock and once they are spooled up there is 0 smoke. Also when compared to the more modern set ups they are alot easyier on the wallet.
