Hello,

I know nothing about the Cummins. I just bought a 99 2500 with 70k miles on it. I just put 4" from the turbo back. What can i do to this thing to get it to go when i put the pedal down cause compared to my 6.5 i built its a dog  and it must be fixed. I'm looking for opinions and whats the best bang for the buck.

Thanks

P/K

Were you a member on diesel place? if so welcome! I too owned a 6.5 (first full sized diesel)
My truck was a dog off the line as well, now it will shame many a truck, many folks have different opinions of what you need for power add-ons, but the question is what do you want the truck to do?

mine is a daily driven workhorse (8hrs a day)
I started with a new lift pump (mine failed under load) then later replaced it with an AirDog
then I added a Magna flow exhaust (4inch) saw little to no gains in power/economy
then I added a Edge EZ, and That was the single most improvement in power I saw it took the truck from dead off the line to almost squeel the tires. I spent 530$ Canadian for it, I should have shopped around. If I did it again I'd get a product from Quadzilla (xzt+ or Adrenalin)
next was a set of lightly used jammerII injectors (80hp) now I belch smoke and the truck hauls!! especially at hi-way speeds.

so I spent
120 lift pump then later 600 for the Airdog (including exchange and shipping)
300 injectors (used)
360 exhaust
530 edge ez

I found just the exhaust and the EZ was so much an improvement that there is NO way either of the 6.5 I used to own would even come close.

but be careful once you have been bitten by the power bug, there is no going back..

Yes i was on the diesel place! Ya i know about the power bug, after i built the 6.5 is hauled but ive been wanting a cummins and finally found a really nice one with low miles so i gave up the chevy and we all know how much better of a engine platform the cummins is getting!

With those adds on your truck what kind of MPG are you getting? And what is all this talk about a BHAF???

Thanks for all the replies:hyper:

Oh and i forgot to add its going to be a daily driver i want it to haul and smoke the tires but be reliable and get decent economy as we know fuel isnt cheap. But right now with the 4" from the turbo back im getting about 17MPG on the highway and in town and cant get a lick of smoke out of the thing

You're not going to grenade a VP pumped Cummins with a software program. If you want moderate power gains, go with a handheld program like a Smarty. If you goals are bigger, go with an Edge Juice or Quad Adrenaline.

- lift pump upgrade
- gauges (or electronic monitor on Juice or Quad)
- tranny upgrades if you have an auto, clutch if handshaker
- Juice or Adrenaline
- stud the head
- turbo upgrade
- injectors

This will get you to 500HP. If you want more, you need twins, o-ring the head, inject drugs, etc.
