My oil pressure warning light comes on. The gauge stays at around 40 lbs. The only time the light comes on is when I am getting off the highway after driving for a little bit. It doesn't do it when I drive around town or short distances. The light goes out if I give it the lightest throttle. Any suggestions? How hard is it to change an oil pump?

If your pressure gauge has a brief delay and then goes up to 40 psi when you start it, I would suspect it it working. I think there is a seperate oil sending unit, which may be bad. I suspect your oil pressure if fine. It's pretty hard to destroy an oil pump without destroying the entire bottom end of the engine. (Ran without oil lately?) Maybe a loose wire on the sending unit?

Having said that, the oil pump is INSIDE the front cover of the engine. It comes off with 4 bolts after you take the front cover off (and all the junk in front of it). Much easier to check your oil pressure first with a gauge.

sounds like an oil sending unit if the pump failed you would know it cause you would be on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck so you can put an engine in your truck
