I had the exact same problem with rotella man I would change my oil and then have to smell it for about a month. I think Rotella is about the only one that has that problem. Valvoline premium blue is pretty good oil. :thumbsup:

funny thing is, when i did my oil change i also did a tranny service. i kept smelling something and all along i thought it was my tranny!!! i was really starting to loose it trying to find the odor coming from my tranny.

can't go wrong on any 15w40 or 5w40 major brand CJ-4 rated diesel oil.
Walmart usually has the best prices unless you have an in with a truck shop service/parts manager

some will pump you 5 gal of bulk for 60>70% of retail on sale

just doing a little research on valvoline. what is the difference between premium blue and extreme? extreme is full syn. and premium blue (non-extreme) just regular 15w40?

with 160K on the clock i dont think i want to go to a full synthetic

I use Rotella and don't have an issue with it. It smells funny but a lot of people use it and have no issues oil wise.

160,000 is not even half of what Cummins is rated for. Basically just broken in.

DevaRoh I use Delo 400 15w-40 and it smells OK. Kinda sweet, not even that typical old sooty diesel smell. Must be the cat helps with that. And Delo is a good bang for buck at Wallyworld. Look at synthetics if extending your drain interval past 8K assuming normal driving.

reason i say i would rather stick with a non synthetic is because i have always been told that if a motor hasnt been run on synthetic from practically day 1 then not to switch. so with 160K i would think switching might not be too good on the seals.

im not looking at the quality aspect of the oils. im sure that rotella is a great product, otherwise they wouldnt still be around. im just looking for something to get rid of that odor. doesnt really bother me all that much, but my girl on the other hand...and she loves the smell of diesel!!arty018: but the oil odor makes her eyes burn :badidea:
