Got a episode to share. I have always changed my own oil ,and filter . Changed it last week , 3 gallons of Rotella T6 15-40, and a Donaldson filter .When I check after changing its just a fraction over the safe level . I do all my filters ,oil, fuel etc , once a year now . I let it drain while I do both fuel filters ,and air . Sharing this for the story below .

As some of you may know about the thread on the V06 recall , had it to the dealer yesterday ,may have seen my post of what went on there , turned out did not have the part to replace the drag link, after having the truck for nearly 5 hours I get the call ,no part ,it will be another two weeks .

Anyway for the episode , I know a bit long winded . Picked the truck up at the dealer , after a conversation with the service manager , about another two week wait on the drag link , part will be air freighted out of Denver ,supposedly be there on Monday ,will be replaced Tuesday . Great ,hopefully.

Got in my truck ,and started home ,noticed my screen was on miles per hour ,never have it on that , thought it unusual . Parked at home pushed the arrow to change the screen ,and it pooped up the oil percentage gauge ,and it was at a 100% , hadn't reset it from my oil change last week ,what the hell ! someone did . Check my fuel filter it was at 58% , hadn't reset it either , good nobody messed with that . Got out ,and looked ,sure enough had a Mopar oil filter on my truck , they changed my oil , when I had went in for a drag link recall replacement . :oops:Also had the little sticker on the windshield .

The worst part about this checking the oil this morning after sitting all night , the oil level is what appears to be a touch over the top of the beige plastic on the dipstick , that's 1" past the full mark, I can't tell if it's into the metal part of the dipstick , but it has oil up to the top of the plastic.

Not sure how to handle this , but will be back to the dealership with the truck Monday morning. For me I want them to buy me three gallons of Rotella T6 15/40 , and a new Donaldson Filter. Then "I "will change it back to what I know is right . The windshield sticker says it's 5/40 full synthetic . I have always run 15/40 , not that 5/40 is a tragedy , just never cold enough here to be needed . How would you handle something like this ????

Personally I would drain out the overfilled amount and call it good. Dealerships give me anxiety so I wouldn't spend the time or energy to make a fuss about something that isn't going to hurt anything (except for the overfill part).
Not that I have too , but I’d sure like to get this drag link done , and over with . So I got an appointment with them Tuesday for that , again .

I have the Fumoto drain valve , so no big deal there. I suppose everything else is okay , I quit with the Mopar oil filters , have used either the Fleetguard or Donaldson.. I like the better filtration considering I only do it once a year . When it was six months I did the Mopar , they are certainly not bad filters. I guess I will just drain it down a bit , three gallons and a filter have already been waisted by them. The worst part is , it wasn’t in there for an oil change . ☹

Unfortunately....that dealership must have a surplus of Oil Change Monkeys that are robot-like.

A somewhat nice, long well thought out conversation is in order with the Service Manager on Monday.....

I totally cringe when I deal with them , but I was hoping for the best ,and that didn't happen .

I have no idea how it ended up in the service bay for an oil change to begin with . Yes me ,and the service manager will have long ,and yes I will be nice , this isn't the end of the world .:) I went to him yesterday , after being told another two weeks on the drag link, I was nice ,but I told him that wasn't going to work. That part can come out of Denver overnight ,and they knew that , and so did I after talking with another dealership finding out part #'s ,and availability . It's actually a bit interesting if you will on this drag link ,and for those that are interested there are two different part #'s for that new improved drag link for these trucks . One is 68338342AD , that's for someone that goes into a dealership ,and wants to buy one. The other is CSZHV061AA , that's the # used for the V06 recall , as you see its got the V06 in the number . Don't ask why , it's in their method of madness . They are both the same part . My dealership had two of those drag links in stock ,but the 6833 , can't use them ,have to be the other to get payed by FCA for the recall .

Well that’s a new twist on dealer incompetence!
Not the “oops we don’t have the part you scheduled to replace”. That’s normal rookie level common dealer bulllcheese.
But the “accidental” oil change? That’s 5 star dumbassery. With bonus points for screwing it up, to boot!

Pretty crazy , if my screen had not been changed, hard saying how long before I would of noticed , probably when I got around to resetting the oil , and fuel filter gauges that I kept forgetting to reset , or noticing the the little windshield sticker up in the corner . I don’t make it much of a habit looking at that filter , only after changing to see if there is any leaks .

When the oil is too high and hard to judge level because the oil is up to the cable you can “short stick” it. Put the dip stick in an inch short of its seat and look at where the level falls. Then you will know the level is an inch above where it shows. I push the stick in until the plastic handle base hits the dip stick tube side. So the cable is in and the plastic handle with o ring remains shouldered on the dipstick tube. This places the oil on the graded portion and below the cable where it is impossible to see level.

I’ll do that , I know exactly where it’s supposed to be . This is the 16th oil change on that truck , I’ve done 14 of them , the first one was by a dealer , and this last one the mishap .

Taking a wild guess here ,but I’m guessing 2 quarts over , but it’s just a guess. Tomorrow I’m going to do what you have said , and then I’m going to drain it down to where it’s supposed to be , and I’ll save it , then have a discussion with the service manager .

I’m curious, what kind of harm can overfilling create on these engines if left overfilled. ?? If mine is overfilled this bad , how many get overfilled that are never checked coming out of their service bay ??

It’s never an issue with me , I drain it , change the filter , put a quart or so in the filter out of one of the gals , and dump the remainder plus 2 more gallons , I don’t even bother to check I know it’s full , and where it’s at after all the oil changes I have done . It’s just periodically checking it after that .

Yup , I need to hold it about an inch from all the way in , and it shows the proper level .We changed oil , and filter on my sons 2022 3500 6.7 today . Dumped in 3 gallons , right where it’s supposed to be on the dipstick. Rechecked mine again today , right at an inch over the full mark.

A little more insult to injury on this whole episode, I thought I’d better check the filter . I have the filter socket , and a 10” flexible head ratchet , couldn’t get that filter to budge either way, asked my son to give it a shot , no go . It’s going to need a cheater pipe on it to get it loose. ☹ Not sure what the service manager will have to say on this , but at this point I want that filter , and whatever oil they put in there OUT. What I’ll purpose to them after I show them the overfill , and invite them to put my filter wrench on that filter , to reimbursed me , and I’ll change the oil , and get that filter off , and a new one put on correctly .
