I dont post on here often but read on the reg. I had a very funny now situation happen to my 2012 3500 while on vacation. We left Gettysburg PA (home) for a road trip to see the in laws in Phoenix AZ. While we were in Phoenix the oil change came do. Now I had done the first one myself this was the second oil change the truck has needed. Knowing my father in law there was no way I was going to approach the subject of changing the oil at his house. So thinking that I didn't want to pay dealer prices I took it to walmart (never ever ever do that). I also thought that if something happens they are a national chain and would make it right (yes they did). So after a long conversation with the tech about how I wanted my oil changed I waited about 45 mins and it was done. I drove about 30mi around town. Then my wife took it to the grocery store and when she came out there was a puddle of oil under the truck. I had her check the dipstick and start the truck check oil pressure. Both were good and the store was only 2 blocks away so I had her bring it back. Called walmart went apeshot on the phone and was told to have it towed to a dealer and if the dealer found walmart responsible they would reimburse me. The dealer told me that the truck was overfilled and the wrong filter was used thats why it was leaking. They performed a proper oil change and guaranteed me that nothing was wrong with the truck. So off to walmart I go with their reciept of $75 and the dealers for $100 and the tow bill of $37. The nice lady at walmart gave me $302 cash and a $25 gift card. Dont know how she did her math but I wasnt going to complain. Back home now and confident that no one will ever work on my truck again except the dealer. Morale stands proven you get what you pay for. P.S. at least it was a Dodge Ram tow truck lol.

That's lame I don't let people touch my truck except alignments and tires just for this reason! Everytime I buy oil at walmart I cringe when I see a nice truck like yours in the bay.
Oh and calling anyone that works at Walmart a "tech" is a slap in the face to actual technicians:spank::hehe:

Sorry to hear that. But glad everything is ok now.

I was up in Gettysburg the last 2 weekends camping at Gettysburg campground. 2 quick 3 day trips was a nice change in pace. Love the area.

I have nightmares about that kinda stuff happening to me. Sorry for your misfortune but glad they made alright on it! Last time I was in walmart needing a tire and I could tell the "tech" behind the counter had no clue what I was talking about with my 10 ply gibberish....hah

I had a bad experience with Wal-Mart oil changers. Sold truck was taken in for an oil change. As far as I know, the correct oil & filter was used. I thought all is ok, no drips or leaks when they got done. Next oil change rolls around. Went from calm to irate quickly. When I crawled under to start the draining process, and found the MORON had rounded off the drain plug. The local Ford dealer had to order one. Got it the following day. Guess truck got one of the best drains it ever had. From that day on, no one but me, myself & I do oil changes on our vehicles. I even made a set of wooden ramps to take on extended rv trips, so if oil needs changing, I can do it myself. I usually carry an oil change with extra filters anyway. Perhaps Wal-Mart can re-located every US based store to China, then they could sell really cheap, & not have to pay for the crap being imported. Glad to hear that your experience had a pleasant ending. Best wishes.

I would NEVER allow Walmart to change the oil on my truck. In fact, I have done every oil change except for one which was done by the dealer where I bought my truck, which consequently was an extremely sloppy change and overfilled (didn't let it drain long enough) with spill marks everywhere. Never again.

I have always changed the oil in all of my vehicles...but like this story, was out and thought "what the hell" (my wife's previous ford explorer). Took it to the wal mart in town...watched thru the bay window....guy fires it up and oil is flying in all directions. Dip forgot to put the oil filter on it. So the entire engine bay was covered in motor oil.....never ever again.
A Jiffy lube forgot to tighten the oil pan bolt on my sister-in-laws jeep along time ago. By the time she got to our apartment to visit, the jeep was almost dry as a bone....no engine damage, but damn lucky.

my local Wal-Mart is interesting, I was getting a tire mounted on my spare rim (ate a rock with the OEM tire, put my spare on the regular rim and a used tire my brother had on the spare rim) and they had a couple interesting rifles in the gun rack, a Colt LE6940 (not sure if it was the P version or not) and some type of sniper rifle in 308.. the sniper rifle was 1700 dollars and the Colt was 1500..

On Easter Sunday a while back, I got an oil light in my wife's (now sold) Passat. So WalMart was the only place open to get oil - I figured I'd get her an oil change while we were there since we had a few hours to burn.

Well, they drained the transmission fluid.

It's a sealed transmission, so they had to have it towed to the dealership.

Got a rental and a $250 gift card out of the deal.

So, in closing, if you want a PS4 or Xbox One, have Wal Mart mess your truck up to get a gift card!

A few years ago my wife had a Pontiac G6 that we bought from the local dealer here in town that I know well. He also owns a ford dealership about 30 miles away in a town that my wife works in. She went to the ford place to get her oil changed and a couple days later I was in our garage when she pulled in and I smelled oil burning. I popped the hood and saw the oil filler cap laying on top of the engine and oil covering pretty much the entire engine. There was such little room between the hood and engine that when they left the cap on top of the engine and shut the hood it made a protrusion(very small) in the hood. They cleaned everything and changed the oil again, but wouldn't do anything about the hood since the spot was so small. I will never go there again or buy from them again. Not just because of this but because he has chevy and ford dealerships.:rof

Hell, I am most amazed that the tow bill was only $37. Truck around here wont even hook up for that!

I am glad it all worked out but I would have to be deparate to even consider letting them do it. I change my own and plan accordingly. If I need to change the oil a little early to keep from running out while on a trip then I do that.

Its possible if you use the wrong wrong brand of filter you could void your warranty especially when it comes to your fuel filter

Sorry that happen to you but going to Wally-World is just like going to Jiffy Lube or Sears and some dealers. They use the lowest pay guy in the shop for oil changes and not necessary the best quality products for our Cummins trucks.

Did they install a FRAM useless oil filter and no name oil?
