Hey all, has anyone on here switched from a NV4500 to some sort of automatic for a 2500. The reason is I’m a disabled vet and I’m slowing transitioning to automatics in my vehicles. My 99 2500 4x4 ext cab long bed is my tow vehicle for a couple of my toys ranging between 2.5 Tons and 5 tons. So I’m looking for ideas. I really can”t afford a different truck. I think a tranny swap is far less expensive. Thanks for any advice.:blues:

There are some costs to consider, such as either getting a pcm from an auto truck or having yours reflashed to auto status.

If it were me, I would do the swap from auto to manual but not the other way around. If I really wanted an auto (which I'm considering eventually) I'd be going with one that's a full manual valve body. That way no pcm work is required.

Selling your truck and buying one with an auto would probably be the cheapest.
And this isn’t gonna be cheap anyway. If you want an auto to live behind your Cummins while towing 10,000 pounds, you’ll want a properly “built” trans which is gonna set you back roughly $5000.
I fried a stock reman 47RE in one trip over the mountains pulling a bunch of weight with mine.

This is also an opportunity to sell the truck and get a Ford! (I like the Cummins, hate the Dodge)

I like my built auto, but would still rather row my own gears.

If you put an Allison in it, you won't need to change the PCM. Just the steering column, and ad linkage, remove Pedal. I believe that's it.

The cost will be about the same when compared to a built auto. You'll get a five speed or six speed auto with a better gear spread and a lot more durability. Use the six speed with 410 gears and a five speed with 454s. or if you like driving fast like 75 or more just go with the six speed and add the overdrive lock out to your switch. I have the circuit design for this.

You can contact these people to get all of the pricing and info. This is a bolt in operation using their adapters.
