Went to go look at a completely stock 2001 24v today with 106,000 miles on it and when I test drove it I noticed it had less power then I expected after driving two my 2 12v's. It's a very good price for the truck but any ideas what up with it?

Its stock. They can hardly get out of their own way stock.

Hard to tell if its worse than normal over the internet. If there actually is something seriously wrong such as the vp44 or turbo issues, it would probably throw a code.

If its clean and you can get a good price a programmer should wake it right up.
They really aren't fast stock trucks
Ok I was just checking, I'm used to driving 12v's and I always knew them to be now quick trucks and this is worse then both of mine. CEL isn't on and I trust the seller he's a 77 year old man who seems to love this truck and he's the second owner other then his cousin.
Depends. Vp going bad, turbo, tranny(if auto). Hard to say without driving it myself
I know this is a hard thing to answer without actually driving the truck, I was just looking for direction and things to look for
Decent place to start would be checking the computer for codes. Can also check the fuel pressure at the injection pump.
do the key trick . . . . it would at least be a start to see if the truck is pulling any codes
For what it's worth, my bone stock, 235 horse 24 valve will run circles around my bone stock, 215 horse 12 valve. It's not even a contest.
I would scan and buy for a price where $3k in parts wouldn't hurt my feelings. Plan on adding fuel, gauges and fixing the front end. Then do you like the truck?

Skip the key trick 99% of the time 2001 going to report P1693 and leave you hanging.

Went and looked at it again today and scanned it p0234 code, CEL isnt.
234- turbo boost limit exceeded. Sounds like wastgate has been toyed with or valve is stuck. Not a biggie at all.
On performance - Hang a 10,000 # trailer on the hitch and hammer down for at least 200 miles. The more hills the better. You will be amazed.
I doubt toyed with, the guy seems like he never worked on the truck himself.
He's asking $8000 for the truck, which i think is a great deal.
It has a plow (the plow frame is cracked) he said he plowed the driveways at the two houses he owns, his daughter's driveway, and the parking lot of the church he works for.
The bed also dumps
He said his cousin bought the truck new and used it for dump runs, hardware store runs, and hunting. I believe he said 5 years ago his cousin got a divorce and he bought the truck and he's been using it for the same reason plus towing his boat.
8000 with 106k, a plow and dumpbed.. Sounds like a sweet deal if everything is mechanically sound.
I would def love a dump bed especially halting wood
If you get it post a pic
