No problems with mine until I recently tried a Quadzilla Boost Fooler. After I disconnected the Fooler and cleared the codes all is normal. I have been running with the EGR unplugged for close to 30,000 kms now. The only side effects have been cleaner oil and more throttle response.

It's the butterfly valve in your intake trying to close. It's causing it to starve for air. Mine does it as well. The sound quit when I removed the butterfly disk from the intake but then I kept getting a P0106 code, the lightning bolt, and limp mode. So I re-installed the disk to clear that code and the sound came back. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you have the newer flash like AZ , You wouldnt have to remove the butterfly

yep i get the same noise when the engine is hot but, only when it is hot otherwise I don't hear the noise. I'm leaving it unplugged and just deal with the rattle.

The "timing rattle" sound that you are hearing "sometimes" when the EGR is unplugged is normal. You will only hear this when the truck is in Regen and idling. If this is what you are experiencing, it is perfectly normal.

I can't see your signature so I don't know what the other mods you have are.

If the DPF is still operational, the EB will engage to heat up for a regen. That noise comes and goes I am sure. It is also there when cold. It is not the flapper if the truck is hot. The flapper only reacts when cold for faster warm ups and to check the corolation with the EGR. Even then it only throttles partially. Technically you should remove the flapper plate, but if it's OK with it in, leave it. Mines been in for 40,000.

Each vehicle seems to respond differently to the EGR being unplugged. But there is no harm done. There are millions of miles now with EGR's disconnected with no side effects except better MPG and fewer regens.

I am not sure on the timing. . . I have never been able to confirm there is a slight timing increase. . . I think not. Then there are those who said it leans out the engine. That has never been confirmed either. However, I believe there is a slight timing increase and no leaning going on. But that is hardly noticeable. I think what you are hearing is the EB kicking in. If you still have your DPF, it will do that to force more air into the combyustion chamber to heat up the exhaust along with the regen injection.

The question still hae not been answered if you still have the DPF installed or not.

I have read 50 + pages on disconecting the EGR is this safe for a 09? I also read where someone stated that it lowers Horsepower, is this true? THanks

Where do these people get their information. No it does not. If anything it goes up because you have ckeaned uo the air going into the combustion chamber.

If that was a "Dodge Mechanic" don't listen. Chrysler has been telling the mechanics a bunch of lies to pass to the customers. They don't want the EGR's disconnected, which is very foolish. It keeps the trucks OUT of the shops.

I heard it for myself from a factory regional manager who just bought an '09. Boy did I straighten him out in 10 minutes. I let him drive my bus. All he said was Hooolllllyyyyy S*&^%%&&*)*)T. He is now enjoying 2.5 MPG more. He also has the small intercooler which is is going to dump

Cummins Noise

This the noise everyone is talking about? Worried the hell out of me when I first heard it, but it's grown to be normal I guess. Only does it when hot and in between 1200-1900ish rpms.

I believe I read it on the Mads site. Marco said they dyno
'd it connected & disconnected & it lost HP.

LFD2037, there may be a reduction in peak horsepower, but the overall power band must be better (wider) with the EGR unplugged since there is a pretty significant mpg increase when the same "work" is performed - this means the engines efficiency increases which is a really good thing.
