Put my truck on the dyno this past weekend for the first time and afterwards my tappet cover was leaking bad. I was wondering if maybe cause I don't have a blow off valve maybe when I let off the throttle it created internal pressure by boost bypassing the patton rings therefore blew my tappet cover gasket out? What do y'all think?

Tappet covers notoriously leak when old...replace it, and like said above, I run the stock 24v breather, and a 12 valve tappet cover, so I have twice or so the cranckcase ventilation and no issues.

High blow/crankcase pressure. When you do your tappet cover gasket, get a 12v tappet cover.
So is that caused by the turbo or just because of high rpm?

To bad I just got done replacing it with just a cummins brand 24v tappet cover...

I am working on this now for my truck. I bought a ccv kit from
Vibrant performance, welded it into my down pipe. Made a piece to
to weld into my valve cover so I can vent to down pipe. hope to
finish up this week.

That sounds cool Blueboy, can you post up some pics when done?

To the original poster, I blew out my tappet cover two winters ago at -50* F because my extended breather tube froze up. Ended up smoking two pistons (#5 & 6) and the entire rocker set. Fixed it all myself after taking the crank, block and cam in to get checked out...no problems with those or the other four pistons.
ou might want to check and make sure your breather is free and clear...I know it's not frozen in TX:hehe:

No a blow off valve just releases excess boost when you let off the throttle.

I'm assuming you were at the dyno in Round Rock. Which truck was yours?
Alright so no fix to it besides a 12v tappet cover? Mine was a silver 2000 dodge with stacks, ran 16th. Had the "I'd rather be cummin then strokin" sticker on the tailgate. I left right after i ran cause that leak was real bad and wanted to get home and get started on it. I had 500 Hp and 1000lb tq with the e-brake on cause i forgot it was on...and for some reason it wasn't boosting as high as it does on the street??? Don't know if it wasn't loaded down enough or what?

The fix would be to put a few extra vents in the crankcase. Wether it be 12v tapper cover or breather on the valve cover.
