Sounds like the pump is sucking air for some reason. Maybe the main pickup is plugged with debris and the pump is feeding off of the backup pickup...which is usually above the main.

It could be a fuel pump. I had a 97 2500 gasser that would stall at low idle after giving it a little gas to move. I replaced the fuel pump and it fixed the problem. The pump could be having trouble pushing the fuel, if it runs ok a cheap alternative is to put an In-Line electric fuel pump to help hold fuel pressure up. I know they are farely in-expensive and easy to hook up, napa carries a bunch of them

My best guess is that the intake strainer in the tank is plugged. Try blowing it out and see if it improves. If it does then run the tank as empty as possible then drop the tank and pull out the pickup tube and clean it and the inside of the tank. If you dont clean out the tank it will just keep happening.

I would drop the tank and pull the fuel canister out and check it. If the suction on the canister is plugged, blowing out the lines wont help, as they are not directly connected to the canister's suction. Above 1/4 tank fuel level in the tank keeps the cannister full without using the lower venturi suction.
