Hey guys, I have a motor that sat for several years, its out of a wrecked 1995 Dodge 1-ton. Two years ago I tried getting it going while it was still in the truck frame. I could prime on the lift pump and get fuel to flow to the pump, but it would never come out of the Delivery valves to carry through the lines to the injectors. I now have it out and on a rather crude stand (crossties). Is something in the pump possibly stuck from sitting so long??? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Did you lift the fuel shut off lever?

Yes sir, you bet....I didn't even have the shutoff solenoid on the truck I was just lifting that lever all the way up and priming and cranking it over. Just tonight I decided I would delete the fuel heater as I have other trucks and that pre-filter screen was full of junk. Still don't think it was enough to completely not let fuel pass on through.

EDIT: Never mind you answered that question already.

Make sure that shut off soleniod is up, if it's not up then the injector lines will not get ANY fuel.

Shut off solenoid location:

Arm that need to be up to let fuel in the injector lines, this is under the shut off solenoid. The rubber boot and the arm coming out of the boot are part of the shut off solenoid. the lever the the shut off solenoid pulls up is part of the Injector Pump

I understand the shutoff solenoid,I have read Joe G's writeup also...but the truck doesn't have a shutoff solenoid on it, I am manually lifting the lever that the fuel shutoff solenoid linkage would be attached to. I am still not getting fuel to the come out of the delivery valves.

Yea sorry I went to go answer your question before you posted. :S:

Do you have fuel at the input to the IP?
is it air free?

Oh and to answer your original question, yes the barrels in the pump can warp and that will keep the it from letting fuel to the lines. FWIW that is only a problem on the 94-95 IPs, Cummins fixed the problem for 96 and on.

If you have time I would recommend everybody watch this,
LOTs of info, it really helps when troubleshooting to know whats going on in there.

I Did not make the movie, I just thank whoever did very deeply.
