Ive been looking for a good dana 80 drum brake replacement kit but i cannot find one. I bought this d80 and its srw for my 5speed swapped 2nd gen, and am looking too replace the drum brakes. Should i do a disc conversion instead? If like too stick too drums but if i cant find any replacements i might have too convert.

Rock auto has all the rear drum brake components. Maybe not in kit form, but just pick the drums you want, the shoes you want, the wheel cylinders you want, and the hardware kit you want and,,, BAM you've created your own kit. Did this a few years ago on my 97 dodge (manual trans truck w/SRW dana 80 ) and they've been working fine ever since.

DRW drums and have more real estate compared to disc brakes . More breaking surface in other words.

2.5 inch. Didn't know the DRW truck got 3 inch shoes. The only DRW Dana 80 truck I've ever had was rear disc brakes. Wonder if its possible to retrofit the 3 inch brakes onto the SRW dana 80 somehow?? Might a cheap (like real cheap) rear brake upgrade for the SRW guys.

The srw diffs (60,70, or 80) use the same 2.5" drum brakes.

The drw uses a different housing, drum, hub, and backing plate so it's not swappable. ( I have both, and studied it.)

The way to have the drw brakes is to swap the diff. The dually is either 2" wider or narrower depending if pickup or c&c. I do caution, those drums are heavy and deep and cost a bunch.

I don't know of you can find a disc kit for this diff. Personally, I'd want to put in something at least 3rdgen size, making 17" (or larger) wheels necessary

At that point you might just want to install a later model axle. But in my opinion TRACTION is the limiting factor when braking.

Only advantage of disc brakes is weight, cooling and generally easier to service.
