Guys,

I've been reading numerous threads pertaining to all the deletes and programers for our trucks. It's confusing so to try and get a better answer to what I need I thought I'd start a new topic on something that's been beat to death.

I have a 07 3500 MEGA CAB 4x4 6.7 and getting ready to do the EGR/Cooler delete and 4" turbo back exhaust. My question is what programer is best for towing and mileage? I'll be driving from GA to AK pulling a 35' 5er @ 12K so the extra MPG's would get good. Besides towing, the only other thing I do with the truck is everyday driving, no hot roddding, too old for that now.

Prior to this truck a had an 03' that I put a straight exhaust on with and Edge and could get 23-25 all day long. I'm not expecting this by far but right now, hand calculator says 12.4 hwy not pulling.

If you are going to buy something you had better buy it now, supply is getting short. EFI Live and H&S MiniMaxx seem to be the best things going.

You will not see 23-25 regardless of what you do.

Not looking for 20+ but am looking to get better than 12.4 not towing. I've done a tone of research/reading and it seams like with the new 6.7's there is more to it than plug and play. With the old 5.9 I had, I put the edge with att. on it and used the pre-programed lvls and got great result. It seams that the new one's require you to set your timing, boost, trans shift ect. Am I reading into it too much or are the ones everyone is using work the same way? I liked the easy user friendlyness of the old edge, is the new one the same? And do I really need one of those that has everything on it like that. I'm not doing anymore MOD's to the truck, no bigger tires ect.?

Well, I'm partial and biased to H&S products. If you can find an XRT, Mini-Maxx or BlackMaxx, jump on it. On-the-fly programming and you don't have to tweak anything if you don't want to.

I tow my 43' 5th wheel on the MILD setting (+60hp) and in my heavy dually, get about 11mpg towing and about 14mpg (highway) when not towing.. Not bad considering its a 10,000 pound truck.

I used Smarty on ,y 5.9's, and continued to do so on my 6.7.
I just use Smartys settings and the truck does everything I need it to do.
Runs between 17 and 18.5 mixed rural and state road driving, and I've seen as high as 23 on the interstate.

Thanks for the replys guys, I'd love to get 16-17 MPG's. Now the question is, is it okay to buy a used programer from the classifieds on this forum or buy new? I've seen a few on here for less than new, and I'm all about saving money.

Probably safe to buy used, but ensure that the tuner is VIN UNLOCKED, otherwise it will be a paper weight for you.

Yup, I bought mine used, but as UthBruteForce says, make sure it's not locked to another vehicle.

True, I just know how many people in this world I would not trust when buying used.
