Initial issue with my factory turbo was that the EB stopped working. Today, I get the truck back with a new Holset 63mm turbo w/VGT and still NO EB.

The ECM believes the vanes are closing ~85%, but I don't get the EB sound, nor does the truck slow down. The ECM recognizes the EB button ON/OFF, but ON or OFF make no difference.

So, reloaded my H&S tunes to see if the tuner is at fault and went for a slow NO POWER drive. Still no EB.

What the crap!?!?

My Diesel performance shop is stumped and think I should reflash with all the latest Dodge flashes, then again reload my H&S tune. UGH!

Utah, with all the money you have spent, and head gaskets I see. (you still removing/unplugging your H&S and driving it) why would you put the VGT back on anyways? Your deleted correct?
Sorry for all your troubles.

Dont you need to re calibrate the VGT after installation?
Complete OEM new, then no he should not.
Barn rebuild, re and re actuator, most definitely yes.

I had the same problem in my 08. Dodge said the turbo was shot and wanted 4700 to change it out if I recall. I bought a turbo and did it myself and it still wasn't working. Installed a reman ECM & it's all good now.

Correct. This is 100% new and there is no calibration. Either it works or it doesnt.

Need to run the calibration routine regardless of new or not. Turbo comes calibrated but it really needs to be done by the platform to validate it is correct for the controller. If it still does not work then more fun to find that problem.

We're going to reflash the truck with all the latest Dodge/Chrysler flashes, then reinstall my H&S w/OD Tune as step 1. I'll ask about calibration yet again.

Shop just called and said that after a full REFLASH of all ECM programming, then reloading my H&S Tunes, then calibrating the turbo, I am back to having an EB. I haven't picked the truck up to confirm, so fingers crossed!

Anybody know anything about the billet wheel 63mm Holset turbo? Max Boost, etc?

Driving the truck yesterday, its lost a bit of its take off likely due to building up boost. Full straight pipe from turbo has really amplified the trucks sound. Uncertain if I like the extra noise yet. Good thing I've kept all my exhaust components nice and clean inside my garage! :)

A good sized resonator will calm down the drone at road speeds. The auto should be a lot better at speed than a manual though. Might have to retune the turbo for some better low end performance with the upgraded one.

Back in business! EB is back!
Hope this is the last of the hard parts. Next year is likely super suspension work..

The sad thing is for about $300 and a little knowledge you probably could have fixed the original turbo problem. Ah well, you are keeping the economy going spending the $$. :)

Na.. I figure at 205,000 miles, the turbo was likely going to be due anyway. I'd rather proactively address so as to prevent any real damage -- like when my transmission gave up the ghost! :)

How do you fix a turbo problem with $300?

Fix the problem. Depends on what the problem is of course, but, with enough spare parts it doesn't have to cost what he spent to actually get the function back. Losing the EB is pretty common and it is easy to fix with some parts. Getting the turbo off is whole lot worse than actually fixing it.
