I am looking around for a new diesel and I have been looking at a lot of 24v trucks but I am worried about the whole vp44 pump going out.

I know the lift pump fails and starves the injection pump of fuel and after some time it will fail. Well if I redo the fuel system with a different pump and re rout it will it solve this problem? I have seen a lot of people are using the air dog fuel systems.

I know the powerstroke motors really well but I am some what new to the cummins stuff but am looking to switch.

Also does anyone recommend a certain year or model at all? I know for sure I am going to get a manual not sure if I want a 5 or 6 speed though.

thanks

Yes, if you find a Truck that has a good Vp in it and a working Lift pump. Replace the Stock Lift pump with a FASS or Airdog, and you will be just fine. Take it one step further install a Fuel pressure gauge and you will never have to worry about it.

Take your time and look at the truck options, the motors them selves are all pretty close to the same.

Personal opinion Screw the manuals

I ran the stock tranny for about a year, I finally got tired of worrying about it and dropped Billet shafts into it. Fifth Gear is a to keep in the Manuel cummins. Get you a Auto and build it up and then forget about it:thumbsup:
