i have a 2002 cummins HO, and it has a 3three piece ATS manifold, the edge hot box good for 145 horse power, a banks high ram manifold, an afe air intake, 5" turbo back exhaust, and 150 horse power bully dog injectors(which are for sale and coming off so i can tow). The truck also has a 150 gph FASS fuel pump. I just got the truck and the clutch is slipping.

The question i have is i need a good clutch as i tow about 22000-28000 weekly, and also plan on giving the truck more power, is there a clutch that ca get the job done?

for holding more power and towing that amount of load. I would go with a SBC dual disc. probably a 3600 12CB sprung hub. it will also have great street manners unloaded! :thumbsup

i had a full ceramic single disk and hated it, it was the most grabby P.O.S. !!!
It didn't even hold half the power I have now. I had a Southbend OFE and burned it up pulling heavy. see pics.
My Valair dual disc is nowhere near as grabby as the full ceramic I had. The southbend was smooth but didn't hold the power. Call Dan at Valair he will shoot you straight. I'm glad I did. :peelout

Well obviously the Valair is what worked for him.

Am I the only one who gets tired of the constant bashing on Valair? None of the Valair guys bash Southbend. But anytime someone mentions Valair the Southbend guys gotta jump and scream how bad Valair is and better buy a Southbend.

Sorry for taking your thread off topic.

i gave my personal opinion in my first post. i didnt take it to the next level until someone else did. and believe me if you heard some of the things i did. you would never say that the valair guys dont bash the southbend followers!

for the record i never once bashed valair i gave personal experiance.

me too i'm sick of the valair bashing.....

600 hp on an OFE , I doubt it. I'd have to see it to believe it. I burned mine up pulling heavy. hence: see pics. It didn't hold the power I had at the time either. With dual wheels and heavy tires a dual disc is much better for my application. Southbend was higher in priced and Dan cut me a hell of a deal so I went with Valair. So far it's been a great clutch with no issues. I will see when I hook to the sled how good it really is. You Southbend guys need to quit being so closed minded.

if I remember correctly RobertP you were a beta tester for Valair and didn't pay anything for that clutch. Ever consider what research and develepment does for a company.

let me know what proof you want and ill show you. there were at least 100 guys on hand during both events.

that is almost correct. if you feel the need to get into detail about it PM me and ill tell the the truth behind it all. :thumbsup

and again i did not bash valair in any recent threads at all. i just simply stated what i run and what i dont.

"yeah im shooting for mid 12's this year.
as for the single disc clutch i fried mine two passes later so i dont think thats the route you want to go. let me know i can give you some insight on what im doing with my setup. the SBC dual disc is awesome."

"i turned my best time yet yesterday here is the time slip! i will post the video when i can get my other camera to upload but i do have a vid of another pass when the clutch slipped leaving.
after driving home last night i think i only glazed the clutch. so a heavier plate load pressure plate may do the trick! and ill be back at it very soon to get the times i want! then ill add nitrous!!

YouTube - track
this pass turned out to be a 14.67 @94 it also looks like im granny shifting in this one, but it was a PIA to get into gear once the clutch slipped. "

The quotes above is straight from you....
o.k. i believe it held, but not for very long. I know the truth behind the testing. Just like i said R&D. Did Southbend make a perfect clutch the first time around ? Did Dodge make a perfect truck the first time around? I'm sure i can find plenty of posts with some minor little problem that needed fixed on many of Southbend clutches. Just because you had one of the first clutches produced with a minor flaw in it you deem them "not working". You never say anything bad about your Southbend DD slipping. If that was a Valair it would be a total bashathon. We will see what happens. Only time will tell.

I never intended on my OFE to even hold one full pass at 200 hp over what it was rated to do!!! So no I don’t call that an issue at all. I knew exactly what was going to happen.

And for a dual disc to get heated and glaze over from repetitive slipping of it is all part of playing too hard too fast!!!

Please post where you have made more than 650 hp. even better show me a time slip of your truck or any 6 speed truck running a valair single or DD, with even a time close to what I did with an OFE??? Not to mention what I did with the DD!!! And will do again and go faster with my DD.

If you want to go this route so be it!! South bend never sent me a single disk telling me that they were going to send a DD. nor have they ever sent me a clutch without all the parts necessary to make the install go smoothly. On top of that, they sure enough haven’t sent me a clutch setup that would have sheared my input shaft off if it were to have held a 4x4 launch!! And to tell the truth when I talk to anyone over at South bend they never tell me how much better there product is than anyone else’s. I could go on all day but it’s not worth it! All ive tried to do is help make sure someone else doesn’t go and make the same mistake I did. And potentially ruin there transmission because of it.

still until this post i have not said one thing in any recent post bashing valair. i simply stated i used them once and now i will stick with my Southbend products.

so if your telling me that your clutch is so much better than what i have please show me proof!!! i will show you a South Bend clutch that help over 1280 HP and one that has a 12 second time slip! show me where yours has proven anything close to that!

sorry to all that had to see this take place. i will step off of my soap box now and let the wolves have fun!!!
