Afternoon gang,
Well time for new speakers. Blew a couple of my old ones and just curious what y’all have out in? I have a 2006 2500 Laramie quad cab. Infinity 7 speakers I don’t recall if I have a NAV system or not. I have 0 experience with this. I took out the stock head unit and through in a Kenwood a few years ago. I love the Kenwood and don’t need anything too bumpin. But plan on spending some money to make it nice. I do want a sub and was told kicker had a 8 inch that didn’t need an amp. Any help would be great. I have 0 experience with this

It has an amp. Question is how does it get signal and power. Normally all in one sub boxes like that are complete garbage. You'd be better off putting in a really nice set of speakers than you would be putting in a garbage sub with a line level amp. I had just upgraded speakers (Hertz HSK 4.25" and 6") for a long time before I amped them. They sounded amazing compared to stock junk. Then I amped them with 100watts each and they fricken rocked. Then a few years later I added a JL stealth box with 10w3v3 and thats just icing on the cake.

Also, sound deadening on the inner door skins will improve sound quality quite a bit with just the speakers you have now.

My recommendation is to surf crutchfield to see what options there are. If you have any specific questions, you can ask a tech. They're pretty helpful. You can explain what you have and what your goals are and they can point you in the right direction for speakers and even install harnesses for ease of install. From there, you can shop on Amazon or Sonic Electronics and pick up a set of speakers (or just buy them from Crutchfield).

Something like this might be an economical solution for you. Especially if you don't have any intention of throwing an amp in the truck.

Unfortunately, if you really want loud and clear music, an amp will be required.

As for the sub, I agree with Broaner. Budget has a lot to do with this. A great stereo setup can run $1000 before you know it. Like anything else, think about your budget and what your goals are and then dig in. Remember that a sub requires an amp, which requires wiring, and a box. If you are buying an amp and you are thinking about amplifying your door speakers, that's more wiring and either two amps or a larger 5-channel amp.

5 channel amps have gotten very small. Mine fits under the passenger seat easily and its now 5 years old. its a JL 5x900. Which is 100x4 and 500 for sub and I'll tell you what the JL W3 eats up all 500w nicely.

Also, its best to do true component speakers in these trucks up front. Pull the tweeter out of the speaker for better sound quality from the mid and a better tweeter location in the factory dash spot. No point in the tweeter being down by your ankle. Components are a bit more involved of an install though because you gotta use the crossover to split signal to tweeter and mid.
