Finally got around to installing a new clutch. I have a question though, Is the pedal supposed to be easier to push? It is not slipping but it only takes about a quarter of the pressure to push now.

I've got the same clutch as you do, and I found the pedal pressure to be slightly more after the install!!! Not much, just a bit, and I DID NOT get the hydraulic upgrade because Peter said it was not needed with this clutch. Hope this helps, and I love the SB Con OFE!!!!:thumbsup
was your factory clutch a luk? I bought the truck with 40k on it. Its only got 51k on it now.I did get the ball bearing pilot. Not that that should have anything to do with pedal pressure
All the clutches that I have done the pedal will be really light the first week or so then it will stiffen back up.

I dont mean to high jack but I need a clutch and Im stuck between the SB Con OFE and a DD. I really dont want the noise of a DD but Im wondering about the drivability of the OFE and how much HP it can take. All I have is a Smarty, intake and exhaust but I want to be able to run the Smarty on SW9 without worrying about slipping the clutch. I have 35s and I can slip the stock clutch bad on level 5. Can you guys give me your all around impression of the OFE. I mean your likes and dislikes and any other comment you can make to help me with my descision. And again, sorry for the high jack. I emailed and PMd South Bend and I still havent heard back from them. Thanks!

this is kind of a loaded question your asking. i ran a SBC OFE for a long time and i layed down as high as 611HP 1082TQ with it. and ran a 13.3 in the 1/4 before it gave up the ghost on me. i beat the living crap out of my OFE and it just kept kicking. i mean it took many 4x4 boosted lauches for it to die. and i ran it with 33 inch tires. but it really depends on what you will be doing with the clutch. i went from my OFE to my DD and i think drivablity is the same between them both. the new sprung DD's that Peter makes are pretty quiet over the old ridged hub design.

with your setup if you ever plan on adding anymore power i wiuld just say go with the DD.
Lloyd Mills and a few others pushed their SB Con OFE's to almost 700hp if what I've read is accurate!!! This bad boy holds and hold WELL!!!!:thumbsup:thumbsup It's very drivable and if you tow, you can back a trailer with it also!!!!:thumbsup:thumbsup
Lloyd had a SBC FE, not OFE.
i wanted fe but a mix up caused my install of the ofe.
I was sold on a DD until I spent hours on here searching for opinions. It just seems like so many people say they are noisey. I know its a diesel and its supposed to rattle, but I really dont want any extra noise. Im one of those people that hears every little extra squeak and rattle and it bugs me. I cant help but worry that something is wrong. I just want a good reliable clutch with good street maners that can take ocasional abuse. I dont plan on drag racing or pulling a sled. My only other future mod plans are for a better turbo and maybe sticks. I basically just want to run my Smarty on the highest level without worrying and maybe a good 3rd gear burn out once in a while. The most I tow usually is a 6X10 enclosed trailer with 3 dirt bikes and gear. So basically I need a clutch that can handle about 250 hp over stock.
well with a set of sticks and a bigger turbo. you could easily be over 600 HP. i think that before you make your final decision you should listen to one of Peters sprung DD's. mine make very little noise at idle with the clutch out. the only time when you hear the noise is when the clutch is depressed. and i know i dont leave my clutch in that often while sitting still.

Thanks for the info Robert. Im trying to make as an informed descision and purchase as possible. I wish I knew someone who has a DD so I can hear it and drive it. If I did go with a DD, which one would you recomend given my info. I was on the site and saw 6 button, 12, button, 3600, 3250, ect... I really have know idea which one would be for me. Im offshore working for the next couple weeks but Im going to call Peter when I get home. Im just trying to gather as much info as possible. Thanks for your time and advice:thumbsup
I will be instailling my DD hopefully this weekend coming up Once I do I can give you another opinion on it.

Anyway for the thread question I would have to say it should not be easier to push. Maybe see what it does after driving it for a while. If it is still easy maybe take it somewhere and ask them.

Everything I've read was that Lloyd was running a SB Con OFE!!!!:w::w: That's what I've read on numerous forums!!! Sorry!!!

for what you have explained you use the truck for i would recommend going with a 3250 12 CB. sprung hub. upgraded hydraulics for sure.
