The check arrived about a week ago. The recall still shows as incomplete when I check online. I'm happy to have been able to install a better part at no cost to me, other than a little bit of my time. It was probably less expensive for FCA, too, if they are eventually going to replace them all with their new design.

Anyone know when the replacement drag link will be available? Plan on purchasing Synergy drag link if the replacement is going to take forever. Was thinking about buying the complete Synergy steering kit with the tie rod as well.

They have not said there would be a replacement drag link. Welding seems like an interim measure but who knows, it might be all they ever do.

There was some question about whether FCA will still reimburse for aftermarket replacement. I received an email approving reimbursement for the Synergy drag link I installed several weeks ago. So I guess they still will.
How did you submit your receipt and what did you have to submit. I have my invoice marked as paid for my synergy drag link. I ordered it a long time ago, it was on back order then took a while to find the time to install it. All done and want to try and get my $300 bucks back if possible.

I filled in their online questions as accurately as I could, considering they were more aligned with having taken it to a shop for repair than doing it yourself. I made a "repair order" and submitted it (see sample below. the address and phone number of the "garage" were mine and the receipt had nothing blacked out). I submitted a copy of the receipt from where I bought it (same one that was in the repair order). I took some photos of the completed repair but I don't recall if I submitted them or not, I think not. Maybe a week later I received an email from them that they needed "proof of payment" to continue but, before I sent got around to sending anything else, I got another email saying it was approved.

Is there really an updated version per se, or there just the redesign for 2019 that can be used on the earlier trucks?
Yes it’s mentioned somewhere in the other drag link thread. It was listed on someones dealer papers

Edit: looks like it’s stated in the recall itself. Look up CSZHV061AA

Their website would not let me submit it, but I called the number and they opened a case for me, which sent me an email for me to send the attachments with proof of purchase to. Hopefully they will just approve it and send me my check.

I looked at the new 2019s drag link and it is different and I dont understand why they can't make one like that for our recall trucks. What's up with that.
Mine hasn't come loose but I keep a close eye on it anyway. Come on Ram release the new drag link!!!!!

Friday I just put 2 new front tires on and got it aligned at the same time.
I had my Ram dealer install my tires I ordered and do the alignment at the same time. I didn't tell them what alignment specs to use or anything I just told them to give me a good alignment that my truck has never had before. They gave me the alignment sheet and they set the driver side to .02 and passenger side to 0.0. Thuren specs!!! LOL
My truck drives straight finally!!!
Told them don't weld my drag link.
I think this is the best my truck has ever drove straight down the rode. Maybe my tire eater truck days are over. Fingers crossed!

You have a good dealer right there.
Its nice to see a "good" dealer story instead of the usual nightmare.

Off topic but...
1.) What tires did you get?

2.) Keep us posted on the front tire wear with the new alignment.
Thanks,
-Ej- :beer

I put 6 Nitto EXO Grappler AWT on my dually at 21,000 miles this last week at 38,000 miles the left front was coming apart inside the tire causing bad vibration. replaced the 2 front tires and had the alignment done again, but this time had my dealer do the work. Alto Texas Pearman Dodge Ram where I bought my truck. population in Alto Texas just over 500 people.

I just went in for this recall and was told they are going to weld the nut, and my truck would never be able to be aligned again. They blamed RAM and said there is nothing they can do about it. I told them to hold off for now. Does anyone have a suggestion?

A few have been brought up in the preceding pages.

But I'm curious why it couldn't be aligned again. That sounds like an unusually inept dealership.

I'm surprised your dealer flat out said that, they sound incompetent (millennial mechanics - can only replace parts, doesn't know how to work on them). You could get an adjustable unit, it'll just likely be at your cost at this point.

There will be a procedure for the dealer on how to align these trucks after the recall has been performed. Either they will replace it with an adjustable unit again or they will grind the welds and reuse the parts (not likely) or replace with a new sleeve and nuts and weld it again (only likely if an adjustable unit is still not available). My guess is the first option.

$300 for a synergy drag link, once and done. I ordered mine 5/19 they were backordered back then, I installed it a while ago and submitted the receipt for reimbursement this week. Will see if I get a check or not, but they sounded like I would.

the truck can be aligned again, probably what they meant was the steering wheel could not be aligned again. They are only welding drag links that can be properly torqued, once they grind the nuts apart and the part between them where the weld penetrated technically those nuts would most likely ever be able to be properly be re torqued unless removed and the surface made uniform again. I think RAM has a real pickle on their hands they will have to resolve in the future. Like said many times in this thread, there is no official statement they will replace them all with adjustable links in the future. Some assume they will, but nothing official at all.
