i have a 01 ram 2500 with 350k miles.
engine starts, and immediately cuts off. i have to crank and crank and crank, and it finally starts again. i have to crank so long sometimes the batteries die, and i am afraid i will burn up the starter. i can't find any voltage at the intake pre-heater. (i may be checking wrong) i am putting my pos lead on the lug at the intake heater, and the neg probe i am grounding to an exhaust bolt that is not painted. i get 0 voltage, and when i check battery voltage i get about 13v. Being that i live in Florida, where it's still in the high eighties, would it even make a difference if the pre-heater is not working?

The intake temperature is probably too warm for the heater to come on and it should start easily at 80°. Check the lift pump pressure. I never had a 24V CTD and VP44. I always made up my own fittings and used a text gauge just long enough to check the fuel pressure.

Grid heater operation or not means nothing in Florida, not needed at all. And failure does not affect starting or running.
Check fuel pressure, WTS light operation, Battery cables etc.
