Last week I purchased my first Dodge Ram. It’s a 2004 3500 SRW 4x4 quad cab. It is 100% stock. I purchased it from a retired couple who bought it new. It has 136K miles on it and only once pulled a tent trailer. Never been hooked up to anything else. Can’t find a single stain on the interior. I am super proud of this older truck.

I am wanting to buy some newer black wheels. I found some Dodge wheels from a 2020. They are 20 inch. Based upon all my research the wheels will fit, but I will have to buy metric lug nuts? Is that the case? Will they run anywhere. Will everything have proper clearance? I will include a pic of my truck along with a pic of the wheels I want to buy and their size.

Thanks so much. Can’t wait to see what this truck can do. Should pull my 19ft aluminum fishing boat easy.

You'll need 9/16-18 lug nuts since you truck has SAE lug studs. If the 2020 wheels come with the lug nuts, those will be metric and won't fit your truck.

Welcome to Cumminsforum.com... Congrats on the new truck! Looks good.

why would you need to change lug nuts? Are your wheel studs changing with the wheels? (no)

Have a look at the Newbies Guide to the New to You truck thread at the top of one of the 3rd gen forums (threads move here so who knows where it is now), good info in there for you.

My guess from the (terrible) picture on the bottom is that the lug nuts are exposed with the potential wheels, but not with the current. His current lug nuts are probably the ones where the end is open, and they are shaped for the center caps to snap onto. Unless the 'new' wheels have fake lugnuts showing, and the center caps attach the same way, he'll need new lugs.

Amazon.com is your friend. You can get a nice set of either black or chrome splined nuts for like $30.

If they are 9/16 like my 98, they will be difficult to find locally, and super expensive.

All that to be said, I like your current wheels better than the new ones. I'm a more rubber/less wheel type of guy...:)

You want to find wheels from a 2018 or older. In '19 and later the bolt pattern are different.

Partially wrong.

Only DRW are different. SRW has the same 8x6.5 pattern.
