Hey guys haven’t been in the “Cummins” game for a while. I need to buy a “work” truck no tuning or anything just stock. We cross state lines dailey and run into DOT cops all the time. I had a 06 5.9 that I loved but it was a money pittttt. Upgraded the trans, lift pump, and then injectors we’re going and traded it in because I was done sinking money into it..... We own a 13 Ford 350 with the 6.7... it has been a great truck with 85 on it...only thing that went wrong we’re egt exhaust sensors... that ford took care of. Now I have to get a new work truck. Looking at a 3500 with a aisin.. Any real people out there with an actual “work” not race truck? I haul 2 or 3 times a week 100 miles + with 14k behind me. Any “real” life reviews about the aisin and truck would be greatly appreciated.

I have limited seat time on the 6.7 PS but I did find it smooth, responsive and coupled with a great transmission, this was on a 2012.

With that aside, I am really happy with my current rig. Yes it is a bit more truck like than the PS but it does what I want. It is part family hauler and work truck. Tows the wife's horses around without any drama. Handled the Rockies towing 10k without any drama. Most recently we moved approx. 93,000 pounds of hay into the yard. 5 trips and it did a fantastic job. There is power on demand and the exhaust brake is absolutely amazing and very user friendly.

I haul over 20000#'s on a daily basis, pushing over 30000 once in a while, no issues. i am at 110000km (about 65000miles), the truck brakes need upgrading if hauling more than 25000 on a regular basis, other wise there fine.

If you thought your 5.9 was a money pit, look out. I am 1 1/2 years into 17. I will say that are not same as they used to be. New Turbo at 27k. Nothing but recalls and glitches it seems. After having a '15 F150 I will say that fords may be built too stupidly for me to buy. I think you will find that they are all good, and all suck at the same time. Good luck.

Yeah but at 27k it shouldnt cost ya anything right?

If you want to go fast get a Ford, if you want to have a simple tow rig get a Ram.

My son-in-law has been switching his fleet from Fords to DMax and Ram. All diesels pulling gooseneck trailers. He drives a chevy dmax for his personal and work rig.

Obviously, I like the Cummins, but I had bad experiences with ford in the past. I did look at Ford again before I bought this time, I drove both
and liked how the Ford drove better. But, I do not see powerstrokes in the fleet truck industry, lots of Cummns. I have friends with the new
Ford and they love it, friends with new Chevys and they love them. I just like the simpler Cummins and am sick of seeing the service dept.
I know we have recalls, but all in all, I prefer the Cummins and my truck has been awesome. What did ya expect to hear on this forum?
I would just test drive them all and buy the one you like. Sounds like your gonna spend alot of time driving it, make sure your comfortable in
the one you choose.
Good luck which ever way you go.

I bought a 2018 F350 platinum a year ago due to losing my home in the California fires a year ago. Ford was the only one in CA to have a 1 ton single rear wheel from Oregon to LA. I was in a jam and had a 42' fifth wheel to tow. I bought it and it was a good truck with no real issues other than the active crash would glitch and apply the brakes very rapidly when a car was to the left of right of you on a turn. The turning radius of the crew cab 8' bed really sucked and parking lots forget about it. It rode more like a car than a truck and sat lower than any of my dodges have stock. Fuel mileage was a steady 13 ish which is a lot less than my 17 ram.

I wanted to get back in to a ram so I started looking and found a 2018 Ram 3500 SRW Laramie with all the options I wanted with 12K off MSRP, they gave me a good price for my ford and I pulled the trigger. I am getting 17-18 mpg and I like the lay out of the truck better. Everything is laid out and easy to get to when driving. The Ford not so much. I couldn't be happier with my Ram. Just my .02

At work we have a mixs of ford 350-550 6-7 2016-2018 dodge 3500-5500 7-8 2016-2018 now we had all ford years but bought Rams after the 6.0 it seems we are slowly switching to all rams. they get work from lots of idling to heavy hauling with lots of mile.

for diesels hands down the Ram heavy loaded. for gas its a toss up i might like the ford better but not sure

Thanks a lot for the input... sounds like the newer rams are holding up better than the old. I agree with the interior layout of the rams is much better than ford. I have a 17 1500 sport with the luxury package and it and love it. The guy with the blown turbo might be a fluke or he might not know how to idle the truck after running it. Any input good or bad on the aisin??? Especially from guys hauling heavy and racking up miles... Also if I go with the ram would everyone say a better filtration setup would be in order to protect the fuel system?? I was glancing at the cat filter setup. Thanks again

Not needed. The current stock filter setup works well.

Wondering why you said this? Sarcasm?
This is the Cummins forum. I would take the Ford PS hands down too. Makes sence doesn't it?

I came from a 2006 6.0 F-350. I know there is worlds of difference between then and now. FOMOCO may have really stepped up their game on diesel trucks. I purchased my 2012 Ram because of all the headaches I had with the 2006.

My Ram has had 3 recalls since new, 2 check engine lights, and likes staying in my garage instead of the dealer where the 2006 liked to be. Almost $7,000.00 in extended warranty repairs, the Ford had to go. I cannot say enough good about my 2012 Ram truck.

No matter how well FOMOCO has stepped up their game, I'd purchase another Ram before I'd buy a Ford. I cannot risk owning another Ford diesel truck after owing my sold 2006 6.0. To each their own tho.

Look up p d diesel on YouTube. He seems pretty honest about why he runs Rams, he has one new Ford and it too is working fine. Not the best videos but it's a different perspective. They're all good and bad. Mines a 16 with only 25k miles and I've had no issues. 9k miles are towing 15k lbs 5th wheel. Many have a lot more miles and 0 issues. I do have a ton of recalls.

Lots of guys I know or work with have fords. Some have 5th wheels some have them as a grocery getter. Not to many issues either but not perfect. Father in law blew the trans on his 12 with only 45k miles all covered under warranty but you never know. Fords ride nicer and drive like a gas powered vehicle. The cummins just chugs along no matter what's behind it
