Lately I've been really looking for a 12-valve to turn into a rock crawler/trail truck. I have found a 94' auto 4x4 with 285,000 miles and it's pretty beat up. I went and looked at it and drove it around, drove just fine and trans. shifts great. It leaks a little here and their but it doesn't matter.

anyone think I should find a lower mileage one to use because I can't afford to re-build the motor

I wouldn't worry about the mileage, if it had regular oil changes.
The other issue is weight. The 6BT weighs pretty close to 1000#'s. A 4BT at about 750#'s would make a better rock crawler motor.

If I was going to do that swap, I would do it to my rangerover classic. But i'm in college and a budget is a big thing. Wheeling in the southeast allows for some weight, and I plan to make it a truggy one day down the road
