Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a 2014 2500. Have always wanted one and I'm about to pull the trigger. This is the one I'm ready to pickup tonight:

Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep Crestview | New Chrysler dealership in Crestview, FL 32536

The Max Steel has me sold. Just wanted to know a few things that I am sure have been asked on here already but I haven't found exactly the answers I'm looking for.
1) why did dodge go to the fuel additives? I dont understand what exactly it is for. I also would like to know the pros and cons of it. Ive been told by a buddy who has a 09 3500 megacab that I'll be stuck around 15mpg because of it.
2) this particular 2500 has the 5th wheel option. Meaning there's the bracket if you will in the bed. Like 4 holes in a square and a hole in the center for a 5th wheel tongue I guess. Again, I dont know anything about that. I dont for see me ever towing a 5th wheel or needing the option but everything else on the truck is perfect. The mount/bracket in the bed just doesnt look right to me. I mean I can basically see through the bed of the truck. Are there any negatives to having this option and not planning on using it? I hunt a lot and for see blood and everything else running down through the pre drilled holes and getting everywhere. What are yalls thoughts and opinions? Just looking for some basic knowledge on the 2500 before I go jumping in on it. Thanks in advance

If by fuel additives you mean def ( diesel exhaust fluid) its used so the engine can use less exhaust gas recirculation (bad) to lower NOx. Its not in the fuel, its in a separate tank next to fuel hole. The new def equipped trucks seem to be getting better mpg than non dpf equip. Stock for stock.

Yeah thats it. Thanks man I appreciate that. Makes me a little more at ease about it I guess. Just not sure why theres always something changing and adding and all that.
Do not let the 5th wheel prep keep you from getting this truck, especially if you like the truck. You may not need it, but down the road it will help with selling or trading, IMO. Many look for trucks that are ready to be set up for towing. I do believe you can get rubber plugs for the holes.

DEF started with the 2013 models. I am kind of glad sig truck does not use it, but DEF is probably a good thing. I am as happy today with sig truck, as when I drove it home the 1st day, 15 months ago. Best wishes with your decision. Welcome to the forum

1.) Our 2013 With DEF gets better mpg than our deleted '11. It doesn't have the power and performance of our '11 but it does everything we need no pproblem...and still has the warranty.

2.) Our truck came with "plastic" inserts with removable covers for the 5 holes of the 5'er prep package. They are not really water/blood though.

I agree about the prep package...It might be a deal maker for resale and won't really get in your way if you don't need it.

Good luck with the purchase.

Thanks to the both of you guys. I hope I can go get it tonight or tomorrow. Anyone ever venture over to Used Trucks for Sale - Salt Lake City & Provo, UT | Watts Automotive Offers Custom & Lifted Trucks and see what they do with the 2500's and 3500's?
The reason Ram and all other truck manufacturers have to keep changing their emission systems is because the EPA keeps upping the exhaust standards, making it harder and harder for our pickups to meet the standards. They would be really happy if our big pickups would disappear. The Federal Govrnment keeps pushing for smaller cars, Americans keep buying bigger cars/trucks.
What do you guys think specifically about the truck in the first post, in the link? I mean with the package and all. I see guys talking on here about how they went with the "G8BR" package or some sh*t! And have no clue what they are talking about.

You'll be laughing at your buddy because the DEF will get you way better MPG than their '09 3500 is getting. You've got more power to boot too!

I love it!! It's almost identical to my '14 3500; same color too! I didn't get the rain sensing wipers, instead, I got the CHMSL camera.

Whats the difference between yours and the one on this truck?
That is one well equipped truck. I'm sorry I cannot help with the G8BR part. Maybe some one with it will chime in. Nice looking truck. Keep us posted with you decision. Best wishes. Ask the dealer what the G8BR is, but you will probably get a straighter answer here thou.

Here's mine..

The one from your link is the next trim level up from mine, so the leather is real leather, and the interior is higher quality.

Mine is also a 3500 with the Aisin transmission and rear leaf springs (14MY 2500 has rear coil springs). The Aisin transmission isn't available in the 2500 and being that mine is a 3500, it's going to ride stiffer... The trade off is that I can haul more weight... Outside of that, there isn't much difference..

I like your rims a whole hell of a lot better. Looks awesome. Whats the difference in the cameras?
There's 2 cameras available ... The tailgate and the CHMSL camera. The tailgate camera is standard for '14, which looks back behind the vehicle. The CHMSL camera is an option to look into the bed itself.

The truck you're looking at has the rain sensing wipers, because of this, you can't get the CHMSL camera. It' one or the other... Personally, I don't care for rain sensing wiper and the CHMSL camera was important to me. The reason it was important is because whenever I'm driving with something in the bed, I'm always wondering if my straps have come lose or something is flying out of the bed. The CHMSL camera takes care of that.

Oh the rims... The ones on my truck are the stock 18" rims that come standard on the Laramie.
I see...thanks for the info man. I appreciate it. Hows the Aisin tranny compare to what I'd be getting?

You won't notice a thing... The Aisin is geared lower for off the line starts, but I highly doubt anyone can tell the difference. The big difference is that the Aisin is a built for medium duty service; for trucks bigger than the Ram 2500/3500. It's really over kill for these trucks because most people will never tow 30K lbs, that some of the 3500s are rated to tow with the Aisin. On a forum like this, you'll find some that will tow that, but the general public that owns 3/4 or 1 tons truck will never tow that kind of weight.

Yup, I've got a Aisin transmission that's can hold up to a a gazillion lbs, but my truck is only rated for a GCWR of 25,000lbs, just like all the other SRW Ram HD trucks with the 68RFE; which that 2500 has.
