I’m looking at a 2004 ram 3500 single wheel 6 speed. Truck looks great. 149k miles on it. The only issue is a few codes and a smoking issue.the codes are a tps sensor and an “apps”. I crawled underneath and looked at a small hole in the down pipe and noticed some oil leaking out. When you start it a pretty good sized white/bluish cloud rolls out. After about 5 minutes of driving it it seems to go away. I’m thinking maybe turbo is bad? It drives great. I just don’t want to buy a truck to sink a bunch of money into it.

Sounds like a pass. It’s an older truck so things will break/ need to be replaced. If there’s already problems and you don’t have a budget for repairs I’d keep moving.
I’m fine with rebuilding the turbo or replacing I have just read there could be an issue like a cylinder failing or something of that nature. I priced out about 2k for repairs (just parts). I just wanted some input on what the smoke could possibly be

I’d pass if I were you, unless it’s a super deal. May need injectors and they will run around $2,500-$3,000, if you can install them yourself. Turbo may need replaced instead of rebuilt, another $1,500 at least. Sounds like the exhaust needs replaced, another $500 for a cheaper one. Then there’s the sensor(s), more money. Might need a new clutch, $1,500-$2,000. If it grinds in any gear then the trans is looking for a rebuild, another few thousand. After all of that, you could still have cylinder damage. If it’s rust-free and under $10k then it might be worth it. Otherwise, pass and find another one. It took me over a year to find a good truck.
