2006 5.9L 24v-had many challenges recently. I finished water pump replacement and flush on Monday and noticed this broken connection hanging. Cable with (I believe four wires) encased in a piece of sheet metal connects to a plug by the front of the oil pan. Any ideas? Thanks for any help! tim

I’m struggling with where the broken wires came from, i.e. plug. More pics show the cable enclosed in sheet metal.
No need to struggle .

Those wires ( against ALL COMMON SENSE ) travel up to the fan side of the rad , and connect to the center of the fan clutch. The wires control fan lock up vs operating conditions vs Ac .

Even properly installed the tube with the wires is only like 1/2 - 1" away from the fan and the tremendous airflow it creates .

Obviously, that's what it was. Took me awhile to find the broken connection, and I have plenty of cable left to splice with. Does anyone have a good picture of how it's routed to the fan? Where the bracket attaches? Thanks for the help.

Yes sir that is 100% the fan clutch wires. Replace with a new fan clutch.
