So over the last three weeks I've been trying to obtain a new pickup, I want a mega cab and I've been trying to get one equipped with an aisin trans. Well I must have horrible luck or maybe I'm not meant to have an aisin. My question is, any of you that have an aisin is it worth me holding out for? I tow stock trailers, flatbed trailers, dump trailers..... The stock trailer fully loaded is at the 20k+ range. I've had three different pickups sold out from under me when I'm dealer gets it "secured" in a dealer trade from another dealership. I'm getting very frustrated, should I just go for a 2500 68rfe and enjoy the coil springs, or hold out for an aisin. I'm trying to take advantage of the 14's left for better pricing.

If you tow that often I'd honestly hold out for an Aisin. If you don't mind putting some money into a 68rfe to make it stronger, it is easier to do but the Aisin won't need it in the first place. Maybe give up the MegaCab option?

A 2500 isn't going to cut it for a 20K trailer.

You're looking for a DRW 3500 I take it?
SRW, and I don't want to give up the mega cab cause my family is on,y growing in size not shrinking..... My current rig a 04 2500 manual trans pulled the stock trailer fully loaded, the 20k is trailer and cattle weight together. Most of the time trailer is not loaded that heavy, looking at probably 16k to 18k 85% of the time.

As already stated, DRW 3500 would work better for a 20k pull..I have the 68rfe and think its a good transmission. I also think the Aisin is a little better.

Yeah, the 68 is junk and will fall apart on the first pull!

Another thing I should take into factor is we have a 1 ton dually on the ranch with a manual trans, so if the pickup is outmatched we could always pull with the dually. Made a mistake on my weight estimate too, it's more like 16k with stock trailer. I was a bonehead and calculated the weight wrong, sorry guys

Call Kat at Dave smith motors in Kellogg. Tell her what you want and she will get it for you. You won't find a better price and she will quote you over the phone.

I have bought 4 rigs from them and always from Kat McMahon. She knows her crap, and will quote you the price on the phone. The quote they give you for your trade is what you will get, if not more when you show up. The have like 100+ internet salesmen and some are shady! no doubt. But Kat has always been straight with me and there were never any surprises. Other dealers in the area will match their price, but always get beat by the inventory at Dave smith. They will have the truck you are looking for. Period, end of story. That entire town is a parking lot full of rigs. It's crazy to see. My experience there has been 100 percent positive.

Thanks, I'll give her a call tomorrow. I've heard some things about them both ways, but had a friend buy a jeep from them and said they got treated great. They actually flew him out there to pick it up had the paperwork ready when he landed, signed it and drove home. Thank you for your suggestion.

I have the 68RFE transmission, and tow a 15,000lb. 5er loaded. I have had zero issues with the transmission. One thing I have read on the Aisin transmission is that it requires more frequent fluid changes, and the fluid is more expensive than the ATF+4 fluid.

Genuine Mopar Fluid 5189966AB AS68RC/ ASRC Automatic Transmission Fluid ,is Mobile 3309 ,verified thru reliable source , 3309 if you shop HARD can be had for $18.00 PG. Aisin will clearly tell you they do NOT manufacture any fluids, Ram does not manufacture there fluids also, I'm not going to waste any bandwith on the source this post is for those in the know, any Keystroke king can go and pick up the phone and makes some calls, although it will take more effort then typing.....I will stand corrected if someone PROVES I'm wrong.

Good news, shorty version is by this afternoon I'll be driving a new pickup. Long version is I called dave smith motors this morning, they were very helpful and quoted me a price right over the phone only proble, is they didn't have exactly what I wanted. So while I was pondering what to do I made one more phone call to a dealer in my state. Turns out they were more motivated to sell to me now, I made a deal for a 2014 3500 white laramie mega cab black interior srw 6.7l aisin trans which is what I wanted in the very beginning. Thank you all for your input, it was definitely worth holding out for what I wanted.
