Well, I recieved orders to move to Germany for the next 4 years. My truck is paid for and I dont want to get rid of it. Whats yalls thoughts/experiance with storing a deisel for that long. A few of my buddies have stored their gas burners at a facility that starts and drives your vehicle every month. Its a climate controlled facility. From what Ive heard, they only drive it like ten miles on a closed course. Not sure what to do? What do yall think?

I've never stored one for that long before. Our seasonal equipment (the harvester) just gets the fuel drained out of it, the batteries disconnected, and everything greased/oiled until it's used again the following year. Why don't you just take it with you? Uncle Sam will pay to ship 1 vehicle over there for you. Take the truck and buy a cheap BMW or Mercedes when you get there. Big trucks really stand out anywhere in Europe.

I hate to say it, but you're crazy to store it for that long. In the time you're there, it'll likely depreciate by about 10k, in addition to the monthly cost of storing it. You'd be WAYYYYYY better off to sell it, put the money in a conservative investment, and come home to a fund that will allow you to buy a 2011 (same age 4 years from now as yours is now) and still have some pocket change left to modify it.

Just to illustrate, let's say you can sell your truck today for $25k... Put that money in an account for 4 years at 3% (the current rate of return on a 30 year treasury bond, one of the safest investments you can possibly make), and you'll come home to $28137.72 in the bank. Furthermore, if we assume that your storage would cost $100/mo, you'd also have an extra $5k in your account in saved storage fees.

That's about 8,000 reasons to sell it rather than storing it, and it doesn't even account for depreciation in value while you're gone...

Well I'd say take it, but diesel prices in Germany make that a bad idea. Storing it for 4 years though is also bad and costly idea. Selling it is the only logical solution. Buy a brand new 2016 Cummins when you get back.

Diesel prices off-base are less than unleaded gas (Benzin Bleifrei). On base (he's military) it is 16 cents higher than the national average.

If by chance you decided to sell it, they're generally worth more in Europe than in the US. Plus you could buy a new truck tax free from AAFES while there and have it delivered anywhere over there or state-side for when you return.
