Going for Paint

Almost close there!

Well guys I have finally gotten around to posting some pictures of the truck. For those that read my thread before called "what would you be afraid of when buying used" Well here are some pictures for you all.

So far we have gotten a lot done. We completely gutted the interior to do a good clean of the carpet and everything else.

The teardown...

After..

Did the front breaks as this is what was left

Have also done the rear main seal.

While in there I found this... so time for a upgrade.

Holy crap....the dirt you can see but as you've found with the TC, there's a lot of potentially expensive risk on the stuff you can't. Good thing you caught it before it left you stranded in the middle of the road.

Well the plan is to bring the truck back to life as it has had a very tough life. We picked up the truck for a good price with lots of room to make it how we want.

The truck has body damage all over the place but nothing huge. The biggest dent was caused from the trip home when the truck just about fell off the trailer

Sorry for the bad pictures it was really cold and I was pretty shaken up from the ordeal.

It has been the most interesting purchase I have ever made and a lot of surprises. I am going through the truck with a fine tooth comb to make sure that it is going to be the great truck I in-vision.

The truck seems to idle really rough so I am going to have to get that sorted out. It has a rebuilt head and 6 new injectors, so I am thinking it comes down to compression.

We have got some new body parts for the truck and plan to get everything on and then it has to go for a inspection in order to register it here in Alberta. After that I am going get the entire truck painted and turn it into a sport truck with painted bumpers and grill.

Lots of things going on right now but this truck will come back to life soon enough.

Looks like a fun project! It amazes me how people can trash basically new trucks like that .

I am curious how the truck ended up sideways on the trailer. I presume it was a poor tie down job.

man that thing was gross inside !!! good luck with the build
Yeah it was pretty bad! Just goes to show you what a little hard work can do though. Thanks!!

I hope you put in some dynamat or equivalent while the interior was apart!
Unfortunately we did get to that yet. It will be another project down the road once the truck is running. It only takes about 45min to have the interior apart so I plan to do dynamat or equivalent as a weekend project.

Yeah it has been fun so far lots of challenges but it give me the opportunity to make it how I want it. People should be put in jail for treating trucks this way!

Yeah we are guessing that we must have not tied it down properly the road we were traveling was rather bumpy and we are thinking one of the straps let go just enough to let the truck slip sideways when we were corning. Thankfully we are all safe (as the entire family was with me). Lessons learned I guess.

Well looks like to torque converter caused more problems. We have a scored stator, and some burnt clutches so it is getting a rebuild as we speak. Have it at a local shop that should have it ready by Monday. The truck has been sitting for about 2 weeks now so looking forward to getting it back in.

Well guys the tranmission is back and will be starting it up on Thursday for a test drive. Also looking to pick up a new set of wheels and tires. The ones on the truck are in terrible shape and tires are different. Found a nicer set of stockers with 315/70's on them :) will make the truck look a little better fill that wheel gap!

Also have a donaldson muffler on the way. Once I can get the truck outside I will shoot some more pictures.

subscribed awesome to see stuff like this especially when its not ur own.... no offense but gives a lot of people the kick they need to tackle jobs by themselves and ur right only about 45 min to take the whole interior out... i pulled mine apart to take everything out including the carpet but fortunately for me i do professional detailing and have a $1,500 carpet extractor so i get the job done pretty quick... good luck with everything

Thanks 06 5.9. There are a lot of things that people can do themselves if they have the time for sure. I am have more time then money therefor I always try and do it myself first. I see you have 315's on your truck how do you like them? Does the steering get a little tough with such wide tires?

No not at all idk if i got lucky or something but i don't have any issues with the front suspension at all the 315's feel just like any other truck I've driven.... today i installed a bd steering stabilizer as a preventative maintenance item to take some stress off the steering box. the steering does feel tighter but only when I'm making sharp turns at low speeds like into a parking spot. When these tires need to be replaced ill replace them with the same exact size possibly even the same tire...

they have about 40k miles on them and still have around 45%. the guy i bought the truck from put them on and he said he paid about 700 bucks with his discount from whoever. they are kelly safari tsr and even with their current tread i spent most of the time in the snow in 2wd they are awesome and definitely worth it if i can get them again at the $700 price tag

i just looked them up they are a D rated 8 ply
this is a quote i got from the web

LT315/70R17 KELLY SAFARI TSR SBL 227.73 x4= 910.92
Subtotal 910.92

the guy i bought the truck from said he got a 20% ($182) discount so that comes to $728.00 he had a hookup where he got these from obviously and paid only 700 installed.... even without a discount $910.92 they are worth every penny especially for a 315/70/17

to bad your far away i wouldn't mind coming by to help

Well everyone I could really use your help now... We got everything back in and started the truck and filled up the trans and checked under the truck and its still leaking oil... When we changed the rear main the old one was almost walked right out so we thought for sure that it was just the rear main leaking. Installed the new one and now it appears to be leaking again. Anyone have any ideas?? Could it be another seal? Is it safe to start the truck without the trans hooked up to check whats actually leaking? Input it appreciated. Thanks in advance.

where does the leak look like its from.... i would check the turbo lines feed and return.... maybe the return line got cracked also how much is it leaking and how fast. i don't think there would be anything wrong with checking without the trans in other than its not very safe to be inspecting when a flywheel is spinning around 800rpm
