2 days ago I bought an 07 Dodge 3500 with the 5.7 engine. It is a crew cab, long bed dually with 51k miles. I need as much fuel economy as I can get as this will be my daily driver. I will ocasionally pull a 30 ft boat. I have about $400 to spend. where should I start. I KNOW NOTHING about these things except that I wanted one.

Hey bud, the 5.7 is a gas motor (hemi). If you have an early 07 it a 5.9 cummins, which is in the 03-07 section. I'm not trying to sound rude, just trying to be helpful. You can get a smarty for your 5.9 and that will help with fuel. Also you might want to get an exhaust or delete your muffler and cat.

Bullets

It is a 6.7 engine.
Cheapest-Disconnect EGR, 0 DOLLARS. SIMS, Delete Pipe for DPF, EGR Delete Kit maybe around $400. That depends on what has happened lately with the prices. All this provided your Truck isn't already Deleted. I bought some of this stuff from Rolin' Smoke Diesel awhile back. Welcome to the Forum and good luck

And to help you truly understand about these trucks, what deleting means, and fuel mods, get familiar with the search feature. There is hours upon hours of reading for your to do here on whats best, what people have done, etc. This is a commonly discussed topic on here.

However, on the $400 question, I would delete the DPF and EGR stuff and use sims as posted above. Check out the stickies here and in the forum. In all honesty, $400 aint gonna get you too much in the diesel world. Sorry, but you gotta pay to play.
