Not to long ago my girlfriend ran my truck into the side of our hose when she tryed to start the truck, by putting her hand on the clutch and hitting the remote start .No one was hurt just the house and her pride.
So for the last couple weeks I’ve been working on my new bumper (for 07 my mega cab). I started out with an idea: I put it on paper (made a couple sketches), built it out of cardboard. Once I found the one I liked: I took measurements(angles and sides), put it into Solid Works, a few final tweaks later; I have a solid molded to work with. Next, I transferred my design over to my CNC Plasma to start cutting. A few Press-Break bends later I had it together (tacked). Tomorrow morning I will fit the bumper to my truck. Then, out for Sand Blast and Powder Coat. When the bumper is completed I will have a one of a kind. Im also going to build some new nerf bar style steps and rear bumper to match the back stay tuned to watch the build

It looks awesome. I would love to build my own bumper, but need to get into a metal shop. What is your profession that you know solid works? I know Autocad decently but the whole 3D rendering is another ball game. If you make templates, I bet a ton of people would buy them.

The bumper looks very good. You might consider not keeping it a one of a kind. You could build another bumper (and another and another) and put it up for sale. If the bumper sales takes off you could have a business builder there. You already have the bumper fitting perfectly. You have the shop and equipment to do the work. Putting the 2 together might be a bigger business opportunity to cause you to outgrow your shop.

I do plan to selling the bumpers I’m building bumpers already. I built bumpers for a jeep company for SEMA last year and I’m building up a product line of bumpers, nerf bar style steps ,grills and fenders and hoods for dodge Chevy ford and Toyota trucks.
But i cannot talk a lot about it on the forums because I’m not a vendor, so right now I’m just showing you guys what I’m starting to build.

by next week i should have my new style nerf bars done and my rear bumper done
If you have any more questions pm me

I have a fab shop/powdercoating shop we build alot of offroad products and I use Solidworks on a daily basis for my products
Where are you located and do you have a need for a handy guy who likes to build/weld/fix Cummins powered trucks? :drool2:

It would be my dream job to have my own shop where I can make cool and functional products for vehicles. Its a great feeling when you can create something that looks great, serves a necessary function and stands up to abuse. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your progress.
