Just curious what you guys in the US use for mpg calculations US or imperial gals? I Canada all the dealers use imperial gals as it yields higher numbers.

I always use imperial gals when calculating mileage, just want to know what most of the guys are using on here when that state their mileage.

As the vast majority of forum members are Americans when they speak fuel consumption they are using miles per US gallon.

If you are a Canuck like me you have to speak their language. It is simple math since there is 3.8 litres in an American gallon & 4.5 litres in an Imperial one.

To converted a mileage claim in US gallons to imperial simply divide the claimed distance by 0.844 to calculate the distance driven in Imperial gallons.

eg. 20 mpUSgal = 23.7 mpIMPgal

To convert an old school Canadian fuel consumption rate to the US gallon simply multiply the claimed distance by 0.844.

eg. 20 mpIMPgal = 16.9 mpUSgal
