It appears as if DEF consumption is about 100 mpg low (309 mpg) on the 2022 RAM 5500. Since the 2019+ trucks use less EGR, Iām not going to complain if it doesnāt get up to White Lightningās average of around 400 mpg. It will be interesting to see how the update with module and sensor works....But on the topic, does Red Rider use more DEF then white lightning? Ive put about 1800 miles on my '14 and I think it's around 3/4 tank.
Probably not, but, again, it might help with trends, should a huge variance arise some day.Would you document DEF mpg if you were me?
My 2.08-gallon monthly average is for both trucks. If I divided it up equally, the consumption would be 1.04 gallons per vehicle. One benefit of tracking monthly/annual averages is knowing how much DEF to buy when I find it on sale. I try to put DEF in the tank no later than 8 months after the manufacturing date, which gives me 4 months to consume it. So far, this has worked out well.By instead counting how much is used per month the picture would be much brighter. That's because it can sit for six months at a time.
I fill from jugs, so that would make it a little harder to get the accuracy that others would get from the pumps. I'll begin documenting how much the 2015 uses compared to the 2020 starting on June 1st.Probably not, but, again, it might help with trends, should a huge variance arise some day.
Will that type of comparison even be beneficial? Iād presume that the 2020 would have certain regeneration enhancements that have evolved over time...I fill from jugs, so that would make it a little harder to get the accuracy that others would get from the pumps. I tend to buy DEF as needed. If it's on sale, great, if not, oh well. Won't drive 500 miles back home to retrieve DEF that was $2 cheaper than what I can buy along the way.One benefit of tracking monthly/annual averages is knowing how much DEF to buy when I find it on sale.
It's not hard at all. Just like with fuel economy, the numbers get more accurate as the miles pile up. For example, if I have added 12 boxes in 10,000 miles, the DEF mpg would be about 330.I fill from jugs, so that would make it a little harder to get the accuracy that others would get from the pumps.
I was meaning that I would start documenting DEF mpg on each vehicle. Will that type of comparison even be beneficial? Iād presume that the 2020 would have certain regeneration enhancements that have evolved over time...
I'd rather spend half that for a pristine original. That way the value keeps going up, instead of down....The picture didn't attach in the first post. View attachment 975645

My favorite uncle in Wyoming had a 70 bronco he used and abused. Pushed snow in winter, lots of hunting and fishing the rest of the time. He used to say, letās go chase some deer and rub the rust off. Due to all the sagebrush wackin he had rubbed the paint and primer off the bottom half and the bare metal would get rusty In between hunting trips. Tough little 4x4s. šI'd rather spend half that for a pristine original. That way the value keeps going up, instead of down....
Probably more dependable, for a Furd that is!I'd rather spend half that for a pristine original. That way the value keeps going up, instead of down....
We saw this one back in December. They were giving it away via drawing. The inside looked like it was in excellent condition.I'd rather spend half that for a pristine original.
Ford had a rough rollout with the Bronco in more ways than one. The local Ford dealer only has two in stock. The sales lady said they are slow to come in, but pretty quick to sell. My wife sat in the Bronco but didn't drive it. She thought the Bronco was nice inside and she liked the overall feel. With that said, the Wrangler is still her preferred off-road oriented SUV.And the new broncos are nice, but my neighbors mom is on her third new Bronco. Itās been nothing but problems.
I try to use up as much as possible before adding. I donāt want it getting old in the truck. Only because I did 4400 miles in the last two years.I just put 2.5 gallons in when my needle gets to halfway. Iām not really sure how much def I use but it doesnāt seem to drink very much.

We've had snow the last three days in a row. We've got more rain/snow coming tomorrow night, then again on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Friday is partly cloudy with more rain/snow on Saturday! After about a week a dreary weather, the clouds finally parted.
Sure enough, while our snow down here has been disappearing at a high rate, it looks like the hills have got a refill.
