Ok so you can read my sig and see what I've done to the ole girl. I has some pump questions. My FSS quit after turning the pump up. I have removed it looked at it put it back on. I'm moving too much fuel for it to work. I put the m and h spacer on. There is another solenoid looking thing there with a wire attached. So here's the question. When I remove the wire from the FSS and the gadget where I installed the spacer the truck runs much smoother at idle
why?????

The solenoid where you installed the M&H spacer is called the KSB. It is a cold start aid. It advances the timing when it is turned on by cold temps. There is a sensor in the intake plate that controls it.

I bet the temp sensor is bad and had the KSB turned on all the time. With the spacer installed it was giving you to much timing at idle.

Where is the temp sensor located in the intake plate?

Not to highjack the thread, but if the KSB is unplugged it doesn't advance timing on the 91.5 thru 93 correct? I just ask cause the new reman pump I got was for a 93 and I changed the delivery valves and threw it on my non ic '90, and the KSB is always unplugged now. So should be disabled?

Will be on the driver's side of the head. I think mine is located just below and to the left of the intake horn if your looking at the motor from the drivers side. Mine is a '90 though. My throttle linkage support has a small hole cut out for it. Easy to identify. At least I think thats the IAT sensor. I could be wrong. Lol.

On the intercoled IP's when the KSB is energized it advances the timing. Your truck will start without it, mines been unplugged for 2 years now.

It's your call if you need it, as long as it starts on the 1st crank or so then you don't need it.

So all this being said about the KSB. Why does unplugging the FSS on my truck make it idle better???

If you unplug your FSS it should quit running. Do you use a pull cable to shut your truck off?

Yes I use a pull cable.
I have both the FSS and KSB unplugged. We'll let me say I have the black wire pulled off both. The blue wire is still on the FSS

If you still have the blue wire on the FSS it's not unplugged. Is the FSS gutted?

If I remember correctly on a IC engine the KSB temp sensor is the sensor closest to the air intake horn.

I don't have my FSM close by a friend borrowed it.

Oldram. I agree with your statement. Spring in solenoid should push plunger down when no power to stop fuel flow and when energized with key on it should retract the plunger with the 12 volts.
Correct??
I will double check later today. But I'm pretty sure mine runs unplugged

That's the way it works, the only way it would keep running is if the tip was missing. But it wouldn't shut off with the FSS either.

There is a small piece missing off the tip. And it won't shut the engine off. I installed a cable

Hey oldram. My truck runs, cranks and revs up with the FSS unplugged. Both wires unplugged. Go figure

If the tip is missing from the FSS then it's not doing anything so it won't matter if it has power to it or not.

So I guess one more question. Where did the piece of the tip go???
Is it in an injector. It's a very small piece

That's what everyone asks but i've never heard of anyone finding out where it goes. A pump rebuild shop would probably know.
