I have a 98 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel.....if I may say, the BEST vehicule I have ever owed. 134K miles (10yo) and never have even changed a light bulb or wiper blades. Yes.....I do change the oil/fluids...often.
Pulling my 16 x 8 Cargo Trailer I get 12mpg. I figure about .40cents per mile. Looked at another way; as soon as my favorite C&W song is done playing on the radio as I cruise down I90 I have blown a $1.00 of fuel waste out the tail pipe.
My mechanic says he can install another "Chip", and do an Intake and Exhaust mod to get a "substancial" increase in MPG. About $1000 total outlay. I figure if the Mod gives me even 10% better mileage I would save $40 per 1000 miles over the stock configuration.
Do any of you have any experience with these type of mods? How much MPG improvement did you get?
PM's are OK.
