I am missing this spring. I can't find it anywhere.

Anyone know where to get it?

Has anyone taken one apart that DID NOT have this spring?

The opening of the piece the spring fits into is smaller on mine compared to the ones I see in pictures. I'm wondering if it never had one.
Mine is a 1990. I am not sure one the size in the picture would fit in there.

It is surprisingly hard to find a step by step manual on how to rebuild these. Closest thing I found was a video but it's for a Volkswagen and there are things different about it (ie no fuel pin or smoke screw, I accidentally turned the fuel pin now I don't know what position it was in before).

A pump rebuild shop should be able to get you one.

The hardest thing I've ever done to a vehicle was putting in a ring and pinion, only because of having to assemble/disassemble so many times to get the right mesh pattern on the ring gear. I thought it was more difficult than rebuilding an engine.

Rebuilding this pump is now the hardest thing I've ever done. Not because of the complexity of the pump, but because there isn't a good, detailed step by step instruction guide that tells about it for the Cummins 5.9L!!! I'm looking at bits and pieces of teardowns for the VW rabbit version of this pump on web forums!

If not for someone else on the website telling me about making sure the pin on the cam in the pump lines up with the woodruff key, it wouldn't have run for sure. I watched a video and looked at a handful of "teardown" stickies and didn't see this anywhere. Hope I'm not missing any other important information.

If I were to do it again, I'd have just sent it out to a place to have them rebuild it for $600. I just hope it runs when I'm done. Because right now this is stepping over dollars to pick up pennies. Just a word of advice to anyone, if you have never torn one of these apart and don't have the instruction set specific to the 5.9L Cummins, I would not want to do this.
