Mirror Swaps Power fold or Tow Mirrors

I've read many threads on various forums that people are wondering how or have tried to swap the tow mirrors for the power fold or vice versa. It seems most people didn't have success. Well....it can be done and it's really no big deal. You need to keep in mind that 2012's and 2013'S cannot be interchanged. The 2013's have the temp sensor...which is way some people got the CEL light with weird temp readings.

So.....with that said, I decided to try because another member on another forum beat me to it. Before I realized I needed 2013 mirrors.....I bought 2012's which won't work on my 2013.....those are now for sale..hint hint. Anyway, you do need a new door switch, new door modules and of course the mirrors for the correct year.

When you get modules swapped out, the switch replaced and the mirrors of choice installed...the BCM will need programmed for them to function properly. What I'm in the process of doing and the other member beat me to it is notify my dealer that I did the swap and the BCM will need re-programmed with the new sales code so that the Power Fold feature works. I worked directly through the Service Manager as did the other member. The Service Manager will contact his tech advisor and they may need to know the part numbers you used...something to do with correct programming. The tech advisor along with engineering will upload the new configuration that will need loaded to your vehicle using the Scan Tool Take it in, have the dealer flash it, and off you go. That simple....I hope this helps others out.

Just to make things clear. The parts listed above are for the Power Fold only and will not work with the Tow Mirror setup if you decide to swap the other direction. So if you want to go from the Tow mirrors to the Power fold, parts listed above.
One more thing..... I will update this thread with the correct part numbers for those wanting the Tow Mirror instead of the Power Fold or whatever else you have.
SO there is no such thing as a power fold tow mirror?

Not from Ram

What he said ^^ Unbelievable...IMHO.
Ok guys I just swapped out my power fold mirrors for tow mirrors on my 13' Laramie 2500, the mirrors I put on are takeoffs from a 13 as well and have the temp sensor. After the swap the blinker and the power functions don't work on the driver side mirror and I'm not sure if the outside temp is reading correctly, however the passenger side works correctly. Do I need to replace my modules in the door and get my truck reflashed??

Oh, forgot to mention I now have a check engine light as well.

Yes, you will need the modules and the drivers door switch. After that, the dealer will need to perform a vehicle configuration with the correct sales code so that the mirrors operate correctly.
Wow absolutely nothing is easy on these trucks, thx for the info.

Thx for the info. Folding my mirrors to park in the garage is getting annoying.
It's the CANBus that makes it suck!

Hey lizardking, what does the door switch have to do with the mirrors and how much do u want for the modules and door switch ?

You need the correct switch due to how it communicates actions you request.
Got ya, I need your modules and your switch. Please let me know when your selling them.

that really sucks! what happened to swapping mirrors and they work like normal? i found a set of take offs but now i'm not sure if it'd be worth it. i've got regular mirrors no puddle lights or anything, so would i need to change it all out?
Coming from a 2008 F250 to my 2013 CTD, I can honestly say the only thing I miss from the Ford are the mirrors. It's unbelievable Ram doesn't have a better option.

Where would one go to get these parts listed?? I have a '13 3/4 with the standard power/heated mirrors. I am just looking to upgrade to the fold out tow mirrors with power/heat. Not interested in puddle lamps or anything else. Black is fine with me as well. Any info would be great as my dealer says it's not even possible... Thanks.
