After it dies how do they start it back up? Do they have to prime the fuel system again? Is the fuel filter empty? Even if it is the IP, that is a heck if a deal and I would take it either way.

That could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter. When it runs long enough it finally craps up and stops running. That can happen if the inside of the lines or fuel tank is rusty or filled with gunk.

It could have an air leak. It is also possible the shutoff solenoid is going bad. I would suspect fuel flow issues from a prefilter, to the filter, to a lift pump, to the OFV, to the lines. I once had a car with rusty lines or fuel tank. The fuel filter would fill up with gunk. Then the car would stop running. If it sat a few minutes it would start again and run for awhile. When that happened I would blow back through the fuel filter and stop at the part store for another.

No I don't think he had to prime again from what it sounds like he would wait till the engine cooled down and it would start again I'm really really considering going to get it I would like to have a p pumped Cummins along with ve pumped one too I imagine the 94 has the cold start advance too o I'm almost wondering if that sensor is screwed cause doesn't that sensor supply the fuel solinoid with power and the two are intertwined somehow and from what it sounds like when the intake temp get over that set temp it shuts down as far as air in the lines goes I don't think so wouldn't it just stall randomly and miss ? As far as the rust or plugged fuel filter I would think when he did the lift pump the tank would have been emptied and cleaned and fuel filter changed.... one would think.. hope

For the price I think I should buy being as I know in parts its worth twice that but I'm just afraid its the IP but who knows could be simple

Can a person rebuild a p pump themselves ?

I'd like to buy cause I'm really turning into a diesel nut lol

i say go for it. if you know you can make your money back in parts then hell its a win win. easy fix, you have a bad a$$ rig for next to nothing. not so easy fix, you part it out if you have to and make money to put towards a better one

What makes you think IP? these IPs are pretty much bullet proof, the 94-95 have a problem with the barrels warping but that's not what your problem is. I would say it's fuel related, or the FSS is loosing power but either way it should be under a $100 fix if not $10.

These trucks don't have a "cold start advance" the only cold weather thing they have is a grid heater. the "auto shutdown solinoid" is the fuel shut off solenoid,

If the truck starts then it's not the "Pull" wire so it's either the ground (not likely) or the Hold wire but you can do a test easy.

Turn truck on and and wait for it to turn off, feel under the FSS to see if the lever is up.

yes let it run and then when it shuts off see if it's still up without touching the key

Well there's a Pull relay and a hold relay. and it could also be a FP problem, really I would be suprised it you had to put more then $100 into it to get it going.
