well i think a t56 is a great transmission to go behind a SBC so we kinda need to know what you want to put it behind...

Well a usage would help to determine better. In a stick shift I like 9 to 13 spd road rangers. :D

For usage in anything smaller than a semi its kind of hard to install one due to space limits.

9 to 13 gears... I can just imagine Homer drooling over a doughnut.

These guys must have huge left legs from all the clutch work.

I don't use my clutch to shift my big rigs once I get moving. I have on that has a air clutch and it pushes so easy. Still don't use clutch though.

In pickups my favorite tranny was the gm( or new process cant remember who made them ) granny 4 speed. Had alot of fun trying to kill them when I was younger. Never hurt one of those but sure busted everything else in the drivetrain. I still have that tranny downstairs. Its about all thats left from my old heavy chevy.

my dad drove a 21 spd once in a 79 KW W900, with the ole cat 3408, said that was a b***h to shift but had a s**t load of power, lol. my favorites are the zf5 5 spd's out of the Ford's, and the 13/15 spd spicers.

Captain with those trans you only use the clutch for taking off. Its not needed after that. Those are unsyncroed transmissions. On a 9 spd you drop the RPM 750 and slide it into gear on a upshift. A 13 spd has a 300 RPM drop between gears when up shifting. Thats why you see a lot of 13 spds behind detroit two strokes. They have a narrow power band.

I have driven a 18 spd. If you don't need all the gears for the load your hauling just skip them. :D

Hey guys sorry haven't said anything in forever the internet was jacked up. Hey i can probably get a 9, 13, or 18 even easy from my gramps who owns his trucking buisness. But man how am i gonna fit it into a truck? And tranmissions like that are they good for Incredible torque. I know my gramps truck is a beast but never looked up any specs on those things. I plan on making about 400-600 horse but a torq monster!

You would have to have a 2 foot body lift to fit that. Don't think you would like it even if you somehow found a way.

Really need to spec the trans to the application. Do you need a low low gear for take off? Do you need a high over drive for highway use? What exactly are you building. Is this a road truck or a mudder?

For a gas mudder the NP435 is a classic. Great granny gear and they are very tough. Have a couple trucks with them. All big blocks and they last forever.

However a NP435 is not very good behind a diesel. I'm quite happy with my NV5600, however that is not something I want to jam through the gears on going through the mudd. I do it often and its tough to keep things moving.

I like the allison 1000 i know its gmc but i rebuilt on and they are a tough tranny. I don't know much about manuals in LT applications. Eaton RTO 13's are nice manuals in semi's

Does anybody out there even have a 9 or 13 speed just for curiosity sake? Man that would be a beast of a truck! Ok so how about regular manual trannny's whats a good one easy to build cheap for a lot of torque! Definantly gonna be pushing 1200 is my goal.
