I am wanting to have a painted grill shell, but mine is chrome. I've read a few stories of people stripping the chrome and painting them, but I would rather just find a matte black one and paint it so the paint will hold. I would be willing to trade someone straight across for one!

better luck finding a truck that has one, like a fleet truck or ebay one for sale & grab the VIN number. Then call your dealer (parts dept), give them the VIN, and the part (grill) your looking for (which that VIN should include that particular flat black grill) and order it.

I got lucky, I swapped one off a company truck that had one!!!!

My son traded his chrome one for a black one from a guy he met at a convenience store who had a base truck. He just ask.

Can anyone vouch for the quality of Rock Auto's parts? Especially the "ready to paint" grill? I'm just weary of buying from a company for a part that is so visible...

I painted the chrome grill off my '09 1500 ram. Lightly sanded, self etching primer, color coat and clear coat. Looked great! And did all with rattle cans. Lasted the two yeard i had the truck. Obviously dont know what it looks like now, but my results were great.

I've bought a couple aftermarket body pieces from them before for other vehicles and they've turned out fine, thats where I will be ordering my new grille from.
