Hello all.. I'm looking at buying a second generation truck to replace the 05. My concern is what are "common" problems to look for? I've found 6 different ones from 2000 - 2002 models, mileage from 75k to 130k.. Some are 2wd and some 4wd. Price are from 10k - 17k.. Just looking for common problems to look for so I know when I go and look at them..

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

I did the same thing your thinking about doing a year ago except mine was an 06. I love the decision I made. If you do purchase one of these trucks here are something's to look for. If its not already, plan on getting a better lift pump and fuel pressure gauge for your truck. The oem lift pump sucks on these trucks and they don't adequately feed you injection pump. Airdog, raptor, fass, dtt assisian, or p pump are a few options. If you buy an auto plan on building it if you want to add power. Check if the block is a 53 block. Those blocks are prone to cracking but there are several members with high mileage on 53 block's with high hp. Dashes are known for cracking as well. Past that I believe it's just knowing your buying a 10 year old truck. Maintain it and treat it right and it'll last a long time.

And keep an eye out for disc's in the rear (way nicer than drums), and if the front axle has the vacume dis-connect or not (stronger axle shafts without it). Seem to be some of those things thats 50/50 on 00-01's some had em, some didnt.
