Just a quick heads up. Those of you that think you are safe from fuel theft/tampering are in a state of denial. I work for a law enforcement agency and have a marked patrol car that parks either in my driveway or garage every night. Unfortunately my truck won't fit in the garage or it would be. So, it sits in my driveway in front of the garage under motion activated lights. Any way, my wife woke me up this morning as she was leaving for work and told me that the fuel filler door was open and the cap was on the ground. It looked like someone attempted to siphon some fuel off but was scared away durring the process, or possibly was trying to "stick it to the man" and add some extra to the tank. I didn't find any evidence that sugar or anything else granulated was used. Fuel pressure is still good. I'm hoping that the AD2 filters will catch anything if it was put in the tank. I'm pretty sure it is someone from my neighborhood who has been keeping track of my/wife's schedule, which is frightening in its own right. I'm sure it happened between the time I went to bed and she left for work, so between 3am and 0650am. The first thing I did this morning was get a locking filler cap! It's cheap insurance and under $20. I really hope this mouth breathing idiot was really just trying to steal fuel and not up to more malicious activity, but who knows.

Guys and gals please remember we really do not know who our neighbors are any more, especially with the revolving housing market. Please stay extra vililant and be safe. Hopefully this posting will save a few of you the worry this situation is causing me.

NAPA has them in stock most places. I'm sure any auto parts store would carry something that would work.

I'd like to see what happens to someone's truck if they siphon some WMO from my tank, especially if they put it in an emissions truck.

Oops, stole fuel from the wrong truck!!!!

I was suspicious of fuel theft when I had lost 3/8 tank of fuel overnight. Next day I bought a locking cap (auto zone) and poof! I haven't had fuel missing since. Teenager or early 20s guy has a 95ish powerstroke in my neighborhood. Looks like a dumb redneck so I suspect him to be the culprit.

I can't say about you guy's with the rounded trucks. My old square truck you won't stick a hose down the fuel filler neck on it. It has a roll over protection valve built into the bottom of the filler neck. No hose going threw or around that sucker. :hehe:

I had a gas can come up missing off of my front porch after mowing. The next time I mowed I left another tank on the porch with something "extra" in it. The next day the gentleman two houses down was having his truck towed. Might have been him, might not have.

I had someone steal some fuel out of my drive way...I live in the country. It happened in the early hours. I woke up the next day and there was a stain on the gravel driveway like it had spilt for several hrs. I checked my truck and it was down to 1/8 tank and I had just filled it up two days before. So I bought a locking gas cap never had an issue until the dang cap got stuck and I couldn't remove it. So I had to discard it after I broke it. Any good quality locking gas caps besides auto zone and Oreilly cheap caps?

I have had a locking gas cap on every vehicle I have owned, for this very reason. Also, when I was doing mechanical work, on occasion someone would bring equipment in where neighbors, etc. had put everything from milk to sugar in their tanks. I bought one from the Dodge dealership in Idaho. It was expensive (like $56) but I have not had a single problem with it.
